Probably because a lot of people with means want to get the hell out of New Orleans so the choices are slim. Metairie or what? The East, North Shore, or Chalmette?

Old Metairie has gotten ridiculous.

They are paying $500k for tear downs in prime old Metairie and $300k+ on the outskirts.

Lots/teardown are going 350k to 1M plus (near the club)

Average teardown is about 550k at the moment

I have lived in the OM my whole life (3 different houses). Its been amazing to watch the growth.

I wouldn't live anywhere else as long as I am in Nola.

I saw a Metairie listing for a 3/2 with about 1500 sq ft, in really bad need of updating, on a postage stamp lot, for $300k. The description even mentioned that updating is needed, or buyer might prefer to rebuild.

So $300k for a small lot.

Decent folks are paying top dollar to live around other decent folks. Try to sell a house around non decent folks, and see if it sells.

Take that however you please, but it's the truth.

No...much cheaper with great police and streets.

I am also 5-15 minutes away from world class music, bars, restaurants, museums, zoo, aquarium, sporting events, concerts, etc.

How about you?
