Absolutely. He comes from money and his wife makes bank on top of that.

Crap I took my kid to her first day of Pre-school and even took a picture of her before going in next to the 1st day of school sign, is her life ruined now? Is there any way I can reverse this damage that I have done?

Spoiled brats get their arse kicked at the bus stop. This is why mommy has to bring them to school.

the first couple of years doing it. God forbid the kid feel important to his/her parents.

But to the OP's point the first day of school production wasn't like this at all for the old's like us who grew up in the 70's and 80's. Our moms were born in the 40's, 50's or 60's and, God forbid, had to actually show us they loved us one on one without worrying how much their love for us was perceived by the other mothers within eye shot.

Want to impress me, perfect social media mommy of today? Post a pic of you reading a book to your child at bed time. I've never seen one. But congrats on the monogrammed book bag Jr. has and Spinkles cup cakes sampler you lovingly gave Mrs. Crabtree this morning. The picture of him handing it to her with a hug will result in all A's for you in Likes...

Nothing is how it was back then, so that's pretty irrelevant.

Just be sure you don't forget to pack Little Johnny his favorite snacks and beverages before loading up the car. We can't have him eating a school lunch.

Kids control their parents. It really is amazing to watch.

Being a parent hasn't ever "changed". If you don't get the point I'm not going to hold it against you.

I'm responding via rotary phone...

And the parents today aren't being parents because they take advantage of technology available to them? Is that your point?

This. I actually don't think there is anything wrong with doing it for Kindergarten. Get them to class, take the pictures and leave. No problem. Taking a day off of work, professional photo shoots? It's not THAT big of a deal.

These parents do this stuff for every 1st day though... not just kindergarten. Oh yeah, it's the first day of 7th grade, let's throw a parade.

This did not happen in the past.

Do you have anything backing up this claim besides one person calling into a radio show?

If you think professional photo shoots are a problem, just wait til your kid can special order Chick-Fil-A and Subway 3 days out of the week.

Seriously, there is a private elementary school here in Lafayette where this happens.

Have you ever even once heard your K-8th grade child or any other say "hey mom, can I have your Facebook account information so I can reminisce about that time I went to the first day of 3rd grade?"

None of this is about the kid today. It's the image. It's an arms race. It's pretty annoying when you ponder this mindset on varied levels. JMO

I would love for anyone to show me parents doing a "professional" photo shoot for the first day of 7th grade

We had hot lunch days at my grade school back in the early 90s. Only one restaurant each day though, and you could only choose between 3 things. Also had to sign up the week before.

I went to pick up my child for the first time at Mother's Day out last year. ( Don't get to do it often due to work) I looked around and there was not one kid walking to their automobiles. Every last one of them were being carried.

I mistakenly said aloud to myself, "Do any kids ever walk around here?" Principal called me to inquire why I felt this way.
