Went in for a routine oil change and tire rotation today. I drive away only to experience what seemed like a flat tire a mile down the road. I get out and the wheel is damn near about to come off. Had to get towed away with obvious damage to wheel, tire, wheel hub, and no telling whatever else at this point. The technician admitted fault - he failed to fully tighten the nuts on the tire, and the dealership is the same one I purchased the truck from less than a year ago

Anyone else had similar shite happen to them?

They'll replace everything without much hassle and you are lucky that you're okay.

Yes, in 2005 Riverside towing toed me and one of the rear tires snapped off at the axle, and I was convinced that they damaged it dragging it out of it's parking spot.

Pissed me off, losing a wheel at 70mph. I still managed to get to the side of the road, put the brake line fire out and retrieve my wheel. Since the brake drum disintegrated I just capped that line and drove the truck with only three bakes for years until I bought a new rear end.

In high school my dad had 2 new tires put on the shared Ford explorer. They put the 2 best of the older tires on the back axle. About 3 days later I'm driving home and feel this terrible shaking and then there was a loud boom and I watched as the rear drivers side tire went flying past me. I was towed to the house and the repair shop paid for everything.

Such it up buttercup. All it needs is a new rotor, hub, studs and a wheel if it was damaged too.

This will not bear negatively on the value of your truck nor be reported on a carfax.

Same shite happened to my wife's volvo. I wasn't happy bc she had my son in the car at the time. Her tire came loose on Burbank driving towards highland at the curve. I had taken her car to the V shoppe (now closed) for work. He repaired all damage and apologized profusely. He also reimbursed me the full amount for the work (oil change and 2!new rear tires). Yet, I would Never do business with him again. He opened up a new specialty repair shop (Volvo) off airline, don't go there.

Tricare on airline is where I go now in BR

You should consider yourself lucky. Be thankful to be alive. It could've ended a lot worse

Wheels on the bus go round and round...

For real, though, I had a similar incident happen in BR. Had work done and they didn't tighten the lugs. Fortunately the wheel didn't quite make it off while driving, but it could have.

Keep in mind, per "regulations" and laws in every state, it is the driver's responsibility to make sure everything on his/her vehicle is safe before driving.

Companies who do maintenance on vehicles are mainly responsible for damage to the vehicle and not responsible for injuries to motorists.

This mishap is a good reminder for everyone to go the extra step and put some fingers on lung nuts, etc after having someone else do maintenance work.

Took my F150 into Audubom Ford at the time and they changed out the oil and radiator fluids. They never refilled it with oil and had a hose not clamped on the radiator. Drove home and steam was going everywhere from water spewing and oil light came on. It was bone dry. Surprised my motor didn't blow.
