I've been wearing them since the turn of the century.
I had my first pair for about six years until one of the straps broke. And I wore them VERY often.
Chacos kick arse.

I would never wear them because I don't like how they wrap around your big toe. Freaks me out.

I'm sorry..I just don't get what they are good for
If your feet are hot wear normal cheap sandals
If you're out hiking or running, wear tennis shoes. I've seen people wear them on the trail and can't help but think why they'd want to expose their feet and toes to being sliced by thorns, rocks, etc but hey what do I know

They don't fall off like sandals. They don't fit loose at all. Actually, they're great boat shoes as well.
They are super durable. I have 2 pair and they are nearly 10 years old and still great.
ETA:
This isn't one of those "Expensive but crappy with no functionality" trends. They have great functionality and last a long, long time.

She probably holds you in contempt for not calling her out on her poor taste. Like I said before, I get the "ironic" college thing, and girls will do this shite then. But if some woman thinks her vagina power gives her a free pass for looking like shite post-college, she needs to be called out on that behavior.
