They don't fall off like sandals. They don't fit loose at all. Actually, they're great boat shoes as well.

They are super durable. I have 2 pair and they are nearly 10 years old and still great.

ETA:

This isn't one of those "Expensive but crappy with no functionality" trends. They have great functionality and last a long, long time.
Ok I cant argue any of that. But do you think they actually look good? That is the one thing I cant wrap my head around. I honestly think they make people look absolutely awful/half-retarded wearing them Being here in Nashville I have a ton of friends that sport them

My opinion is I feel sorry for people that spend any amount of time caring about what other people wear.

Meh. It's human nature to make judgments about others for all sorts of reasons. What you wear does tend to say something about you.

It says even more about a person that judges others based on what they wear. I just don't understand the need and desire of a person to have everyone else conform to their taste.

I've seen women wearing them. I didn't know what they were called before this thread. I didn't know guys wore them either.

Having said all that, what someone else wears is none of my concern.

I guarantee you that you judge people on what they wear. Everyone does. What makes one an a-hole is taking them a step further and then treating that person differently based on that or not allowing them a chance

What does it say?

I find it hard to believe that you don't do it yourself, at least to a certain extent.

But aren't these two separate things? I think it's great that not everyone is exactly like me.

Do you remember the old spinoff show from Happy Days, Joannie Loves Chacos?

I'm all about function over form. If I was in a kayak, raft, or other water based activity, I'd wear them. They look great for what they were designed for. It's when people take them out of that element and in to an area of fashion they were never intended that I have a problem.

The same can be said for almost any article of clothing:

Knit cap and scarf with T-Shirt in the summer time. Hipsters wear this shite and I want to hit them in the head with a claw hammer

Running shoes with khakis. See Crazy Stupid Love for reference

Hiking boots in the mall.

Flip Flops anywhere more than 300 yards from a beach or pool.

Dress for the occasion. Look like you have some semblance of self decency and respect. Quit dressing like a fricking idiot.

I do but I actually try not to. I mean when I see sagging pants and thuggish looking shite for example it's hard not to make assumptions. I have learned over the years of dealing with people that first impressions based solely on superficial things can be very wrong so I force myself to not make too quick of a judgement and try to judge based on actions and conversation if it gets that far. I sure as hell don't carry on about what people wear to the point to discuss it with anyone.

Agreed

I'm confused on what your reasoning is behind this? I mean, they are just shoes for Christ's sake. Its not like there is anything really flashy bout them either. They are fricking sandals. What is "awful" or "retarded" about them?

I feel like every girl I saw wearing them at LSU wore them with the oversized t-shirts and baggy nike shorts. And they were usually not very attractive. So that's the negative connotation I will always associate with these "chacos". Do not like.

Plus any style that I can imagine my dad or grandpa rocking, is not a style that looks good on a girl.

It is just an opinion. I think they look terrible, and make people wearing them look goofy and stupid looking. Just how I feel. No big deal. Im sure some of the shite I wear looks stupid to some

Just noticed something. OP asked specifically about females wearing these shoes. I'm going to go out on a limb as speculate OP has a bit of a foot fetish. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Right. But opinions are usually based on something, so what exactly is your basis or why they look so dumb?

bullshite. I remember some of your posts in that thread with the soccer players dressed up. You were having absolutely none of a guy wearing a blazer and a pocket square.

Because I think they look horrible. I have no idea to make this any clearer for you. I think they look stupid and ugly all at the same time

Do I think some of the recent trends look gay as hell? Yes. but having said that, I was trolling hard in that thread. I know when I was young the 40-50 crowd looked at what were wore and just shook their heads. You'll be doing it one day as well. It's a rite of passage.

I've owned a pair for about a year now. They're pretty comfortable and durable.

They're everywhere at Alabama. I don't like them on girls though. It makes their feet look kinda mannish to me.
