What's the most that you would spend on pool/spa/outdoor kitchen?

Just had one my best friends hit the 100k mark. It's really nice looks like something off the show pool kings. When I'm through I'll probably be at 35k and that's a lot to me ( I'm Livingston trash and OT poor I know) what is your limit that you would spend on your back yard paradise?

Spending 100k for something on a house not under beam that adds zero resale value is absolutely asinine IMO.

I don't want a pool but a rough quote of what I want in my back yard was 45k. That's with appliances though

The guy that had my house before me spent $70k on pool and landscaping. I will spend about $5k upgrading the patio with tv and speakers.

The most I would spend would be whatever wouldn't put me in the poorhouse and don't do it to compete with others do it for spending quality time with your family.

I with you on that I guess. My wife said she wants to come home to a vacation. Like I said I'm at 35k which seems like a lot to me but the more I look at it the more I want to add lol. We are both 50 and have to grandkids (9,4). I can easily see me at the 50k mark at this time next year... which I thought I would never do

Let time ask you this, does the kids and grandkids live close? Just how much time to you think you and your family will use it? Figure that out and adjust accordingly. That make whatever the cost a little easier to swallow.

trouble is, when you add an outdoor kitchen, you are not coming home to a vacation....you are coming home to yet another area to keep clean and work on broken appliances.

I've got about $65 in mine. Pool, lots of patio space, outdoor kitchen/living is about 30'x30'.
We did all of our own landscaping and anywhere else we could do the work, we did.
It gets used 250 days out of the year by me and the kids.
Neighbors on either side built theirs two years after us and have over $100k each and not near the setup we have.

After the first three months, it'll be nothing special. You're wasting 35K. I'm not poor and it seems like a huge waste. Your best bet is to buy a home with a pool already installed. It doesn't raise the value of the home much, if at all.

Prices and options add up quick...
My outdoor space is nearly done. The previous owner had the gunite pool, waterfall spa and flagstone installed.
I wanted an outdoor kitchen, luckily my father-in-law is a contractor and we built it ourselves and used stacked stone. I just purchased the DCS grill, stainless cabinets and sink, and kegerator.
I use my outdoor kitchen every single weekend. Well worth the investment IMO.

If I knew I'd be there for a long time (15+ years), I could see myself spending 75-100k. I would be spending the money for my enjoyment of the space, not to get 100% back at resale.

I would tend to look more at the value it could add to my home. My current home, I wouldn't invest much into an outdoor area as the value of the house won't be added to at all with it. My home will sell for the same no matter what I do to it unless I add another bedroom to it as it is a small, "starter" home.
If I had a 300k home in a nice neighborhood where putting 50k into a nice outdoor area would add 50k of value to the home, I would do it without question if i could afford to.
I have considered buying a small space on our local town square but the guy still wants too much. It is about 1400 sf in a space I have always loved but the roof is in rough shape but I would love to build a personal bar, hang out place for me and my friends.

There's almost nothing you can do to a home where you get a 1 to 1 return. Maybe adding square footage to the living areas (bedroom/bathroom addition) gets closer, but even then.
