What's the going rate for an architect?

Looking to do an addition. How do they typically charge? % of project cost? SF? And not just drafting something up, actually designing something more interesting than I could come up with myself. TIA. (In Louisiana)

you should know the overwhelming answer to this is going to be about 350/3.50/tree fiddy

Last time I used one was about 5-6 years ago and the rate was between $.75 to $1.00 per square foot.

That square foot charge is for total and not just living. Garages and porches count towards the total bill.

I pay the guy who drafts my house plans this and he's not an architect.

ETA: at least I don't think he is

Last time I used one, they charged $1.25 per total sqft to adjust existing plans. $2.50 per to start from scratch.

I hired one last year for $400. He ended up giving be a $50 discount though because he forgot the damn victim child

I'm an architect. I have 3 base designs that I base my pricing off of


a hj is gonna cost you 3.50
a bj is gonna run about 350
a zj is gonna run you tree fiddy
