The Golf Fix is spending some time on this today. If you have the Golf Channel, DVR it tonight.

Most amateurs have early extension with the downswing. Instead of keeping their tush on the original plane they "hump the goat" Basically as they start the downswing their body gets up right and the hips thrust towards the ball. This makes it almost impossible to have consistent contact through the strike zone

Pretty sure I get a case of these too

We use to play all the time, at the end of the round he gave me a lesson and I didn't even know it.Very good teacher, esp. on the short game.

Look at the front of the ball at impact with irons. It will take some getting used to but has helped my iron/wedge game tremendously

Golf is too easy. The ball is stationary. See ball , hit ball.

Yes, I know that is Vijay. Just because it's effective doesn't mean it isn't ugly.

You realize the pic you posted is a fraction PAST impact? Hence the torque on the shaft and the non picture perfect forward press.

see middle picture

Imagine that wrist cock throughout your entire down swing

if you mentally focusing on "HOLD THE WRIST ANGLE" with a normal swing tempo, your wrists should release normally as usually but as your wrists straighten up as your swing hits the descent, your wrists will be starting from such a much more cocked position than normal, that as they release you will have a normal lag to your shaft through impact

Because if you are hitting your ball with no wrist angle, exaggerate the angle in your back swing and exaggerate holding it, you will feel like you are lagging your wrists a retarded amount, but this is actually what it should feel like, it just feels unnatural to you because you've been early releasing for 20 years

I also like this one

For me at the top of my swing I can feel my club traveling for literally a fraction of a second while I begin my downswing, which further closes the angle in my wrist... your wrist cock gains a few degrees while BEGINNING your downswing

Hitting your irons with lag is actually easier to me, it feels like my hands are incredibly quiet and I hit a nice divot and you don't feel it in your hands at all because the force is transferred by your larger muscle groups, not your wrist and hands flipping through which can lead to injury

Get a towel
Put it 8 inches or so behind your ball
Use 7 iron
Start with 1/2 swings
Swing and don't hit towel

As with Tour striker - this does nothing for path - which could relate to bad face positions at impact. It it will help with your positions at impact.

For path we need another thread.

Whoever 4 jacked - go get some damn putting lessons.

Johnny Miller is way ahead, hitting down and through.

Trevino had this mastered. Dude's impact is one of the GOAT.

Mastering this impact position will trickle into your short game as well. You will start hitting crisper pitches and chips.

This drill looks to be great at helping you get your hands ahead. Stick an alignment rod in the end of a grip and swing without the rod hitting your thigh.
