Statements like these are a good example of dealing in absolutes. It drives me crazy how it is so common.

This.

My statement was not out of context. You said dead people. Not certain dead people.

Just saying...

You are the one who made the absolute statement.

Sorry, death doesn't absolve us of our transgressions.

But not making broad and undefendable statements?

Interesting...

I think you just want to argue. You got the "absolute" idea from another poster. It wasn't your idea.
Rocket was a poster here for years. I only knew him from TD. I said what I did about speaking ill of the dead taking it for granted that the folks in here were familiar with him. I didn't "know " Hitler and I don't think others here did either. There's quite a difference in the two that I thought was understood.

I think rocket was the guy that would always flame the Lhsaa split threads on the msb. Seemed like a mentally imbalanced piece of shite most of the time.

Man when Saban left I thought he might kill himself for real

I also remember him being affected by that (despite the fact that I usually only get on TD a limited amount most days).

Rocket was one of the more active posters on the Rant, I'd say from 2003 through 2005 or 2006. I don't remember how much I agreed with him, but I enjoyed reading his posts... he backed this thoughts up better than most.

He was definitely bummed out when Saban left, but I remember him taking it harder when Saban accepted the job at Bama. In the week or weeks leading up to that, when rumors that Bama was making a strong push for Saban started making the rounds here, Rocket strongly believed he wouldn't accept. When Saban accepted, I think Rocket dropped off the face of TD for a long time, re-surfacing rarely after that, and more on the OT for the odd mansion posts. It struck me as odd how personally he took it that it was memorable.

Regarding the racist comments, I never really saw that either. He did dish out barbs and insults at times. He did it to me once-- I don't remember what specifically, but it was crude. I just laughed in reply and made a joke that about him motivating me and something about him being a coach. He instantly backed off his attack and posted something about really wanting to be a coach. So, I'm inclined to agree with Stout that he just had a dry sense of humor and would say harsh things to ruffle feathers.

But I can't speak to what the man really thought and it doesn't make it okay if he was joking. In any case, I'm just surprised to hear he passed, too.

RIP, Rocket.

eta: In the time it took me to write my tldr post, I see more input about some negative things he did/said. Whether I didn't click those threads or wasn't around, I didn't see it. That's too bad about him... but the little bit I did see of him on TD, he did seem increasingly odd and unhappy in some way.

Not really.

Actually my first response was poking fun at your "absolute" statement. The other poster was playing off of what I said. God forbid I have an original thought or agree with some one else.

The rest of your statement is pretty irrelevant and just fluff.

I didn't know the guy personally but he always portrayed himself as a miserable racist as far as I am concerned. Perhaps he was the nicest guy in real life.

Don't know and don't care. Sorry death does not excuse poor behavior. People don't become saints because they die. Sorry.

Yeah, he went off the deep end over there. He made DA look sane. It was kind of weird because he wasn't like this for most of the time he posted. Just the last year or so. Really hateful.
