That is exactly it. It's unsettling in say... Frisco TX... for a mom and her kids to be sidled up in a booth next to bubba with his holster.

I would think people in Frisco would roll their eyes at stuff like this.

LOL. I carry every day. I'm none of the above. Last thing I EVER want to do is use it unless it's life or death for me or my family.

Just the thought of going through the trouble of a court case and the associated costs is enough to deter me from ever pulling unless it's go time. Me or them type of situation.

What about a plain clothed officer? Are you going to feel uncomfortable around them?

What about a retired cop?

You'd never leave your house if you knew the sheer number of people who carried.

Just think about this: In Florida 1 of every 12 people has their carry license. That means every restaurant, gas station, grocery store, etc that you go into, somebody is carrying.

Oh. And that doesn't count the number of felons who are carrying for less than admirable purposes. You know, the ones who will kill you for your gold chain.

Lots of people carry on Frisco. I have family who live there and the gun rights community is alive and well there.

Completely different conversation. Those assholes do more to hurt gun rights than the Brady bill people will ever do.

That's a fact.

For me at least, it really has little to nothing to do with a fear of actually getting shot; its just that in most circumstances, the type of person who feels the need to open carry during day-to-day activities is not the type of person I want to be around during my day-to-day activities. I feel the same way about someone randomly carrying around a snake or baseball bat or really any object not necessary for the activity.

I don't have the same issue with concealed carry; although personally I don't do it that often, I have friends that are armed almost all the time and it doesn't bother me.

Lets be honest this has everything to do with people stumbling into Whataburger at 3am trashed and looking for drunk food

Do not be surprised if Waffle House and IHOP take the same stance

I can't wrap my mind around why someone would want to carry around a gun all day, but I don't fear for my life because people do it.

I'm just explaining why I don't necessarily prefer to be around people who are doing it. In the concealed carry situation I can't do anything about it. In an open carry situation I could.

I understand. Some people don't see the world the same way. We see the world differently.

What can you do in either situation to improve your own situation other than walking out of a place?

Sort of like the devil you can see vs the one you can't.

For the record... The devil you can't see (e.g. Felons carrying guns) is ALWAYS worse than the one you can see.

That's not the case for those AR-15 carrying fools. frick those guys.

And again, for the record, I don't like open carry for the specific reason of the element of surprise.

That's what I could do. I probably wouldn't, but I could. I can't imagine open carry being very popular anyway, so it isn't a big deal in the grand scheme.

Waffle House already has a corporate ban on weapons in it's restaurants.

What is missing from this discussion is that the decision to ban open carry but allow conceal carry is all about emotion, not safety.
In Texas those who choose to open carry must possess the same permit that those who choose to conceal must possess. You pass the same background checks, take the same training and hold the came state issue card to carry. So it's fine to hide the fact that you have a firearm because someone who sees it may be irrationally upset by it being visible. That's BS.

Wrong.
In Texas those who choose to open carry must get the same permit that is used to conceal carry.
As a founding member of LOCAL I can assure you that the vast majority of our members have Conceal Handgun Permits and often alternate between conceal carry and open carry or both at the same time as they feel necessary. I've had a CHP for more than 20 years and regularly conceal carry as a back up to my open carry handgun.
