Went to the grocery store yesterday and when I park I'm next to a car wiht a dog in the backseat with all 4 windows rolled all the way up. He's running around back there looking at passerbys and is panting pretty solid. I thought maybe they're running to the redbox or something. So I do my shopping and it's a pretty quick trip, probably less than 10 minutes total, and when I get back out he's still there. This was in the early evening so it wasn't a sauna but it will still daylight and I'm sure it was hot enough in the car to where the dog was not in a good situation.

Now, I have some people on my newsfeed who feel like they need to be captain america that have actually recorded stuff like this before and sent it off to news stations wiht the plate. That's not really me, but at the same time I thought I should probably do SOMETHING. So I just went in and told an employee then left. I figured at that point I've done my due diligence.

What would you do in the situation? Call the police, wait for the owner to chew them out, not care at all and go home, something else?

Call a cop to shoot the dog....jk. Not sure what I would do but the owner should not be an owner.

If the dog looked like it was struggling I'd get a cashier to call the owner of the car...then I'd tell them about the dog. It was probably just a mistake...

I would have told an employee like you did. Or alert a police officer if I happened to see one in the parking lot.

Not cause I care about getting the owner in trouble....but because that poor dog could fry inside if left in a car with no windows down for a period of time.

Depends on the situation. Like if we just needed milk I'd just grab it. If it was for two weeks worth of groceries I'd pull the list out and grab a cart

I would make an attempt to locate the owner like having the paged over an intercom. If no luck then I wouldn't hesitate to call 911.

Cruelty to animals is a crime. Any POS who does this doesn't deserve to have a dog IMHO.

I keep a spring loaded center punch for just such an emergency.

So you would just ignore it even if the dog was looking in really bad shape?

I couldn't stand to see an animal suffer cause their owner is an a-hole. Especially when that is technically cruelty to animals and one can be prosecuted for it.

I would have called the cops if it had been that long with the windows rolled up.

frick the owner, they are a piece of shite for doing that.

Pretty sure here in Indiana that there is a law that protects me if I break a window to help the dog. I'd probably want to take advantage of the opportunity to do a free B&E.

I mean in a typical situation, I'm just going to walk by the car, think to myself "poor little guy, what a shitty owner", and go on about my business.

If I feel like the dog is on the verge of dying, I would likely get help or just try to save it. But typically I just stay out of people's business because I have learned that is the best option in almost all situations.

What it change the situation if the car with the windows all up was some douchey looking car with a douchebag-esque personalized plate and they are double parked in a busy parking lot?

Like this?

You can tell if a dog is struggling with the heat. If they looked like they were, I'd get a cashier to announce on the loudspeaker for the owner of the vehicle.
