What would be worst, losing a child or telling him/her that he is going to die

I know, a very downer thread.

I'm sitting here watching "2012" and the giant Russian ship is about to crash into the ocean. The little girl is freaking out, asking if they are about to die.

This got me thinking. What would be worse, losing a child in a tragady like the child in WDW or a car accident, or telling a child that they are going to die soon (let's say age 5-10 y.o.) of some illness? I say 5-10 years old because anyone older could understand it at least a little.

As a father, my biggest fear is seeing one of my daughters suffer and eventually pass away and them not understanding why.

Sorry for the downer!

losing a kid ... you have the option of not telling them anything ... i don't have kids but i cannot fathom losing a child ... i recently made the comment that i can only make jokes about the alligator incidence because i simply cannot comprehend losing a child in any manner, much less that one ...

Uh, having to tell them and then watching them go through the emotions of realizing they won't live a full life and have the opportunity to follow their dreams. If you say otherwise you're a selfish piece of shite.

I assume most of you will say orherwise.

A few years ago there was a young girl in my town that was in a car accident and was pinned in the car. She called her parents and told them she was in an accident but she was ok. The parents arrived at the scene just as the car burst into flames. She was not able to get out of the car.

I totally agree. Losing a child in an accident, I cannot imagine it (and don't want to, but in the end, I could wrap my mind around it, and live with it.

Telling a young child that they will die in X amount of months or years, and knowing what is in store for them, plus knowing they will not understand completely, is my biggest fear in life. Having one of my daughters ask why are they going to die or "Am I going to die?" wakes me in the middle of the night.
