It sucked. Changed my life forever. Some for the good and some for the bad.

It changed Baton Rouge forever, and not for the good.

I lived in Buras at the time. The day after I flew over the lower end of Plaquemines Parish in route to check on some platforms and I didn't recognize the place. There was still 8-15ft of water covering the parish. When I got to my house a few days later I noticed the water line inside was 8ft high on the second floor. So the water got as high as 25ft.

It sucked. It still sucks.

Very much so. It was and always will be a life changing event for those directly involved in dealing with it. Just have to plow on and make the best of it.

Damn, I was only 12 and can vividly remember watching the levees break on our 12" tv we had hooked up to our generator with my aunt and uncle from NOLA staying with us

I was in Northeast Louisiana and we had football practice in that shite. It was still a strong cat1 or maybe a cat2 and our coach had us practicing football. Needless to say we did not complete very many passes that day. Went home and watched CNN and fox news coverage of the storm.

I've stayed in New Orleans for many hurricanes and the winds from Katrina made the house make noises that I have never heard before. I was in Metry so house was ok.
Walked around some and saw typical hurricane damage in the Dorignacs area. Didn't walk up to the 17th street canal. Drove up to BR and saw that the levees had broken.
Got into NOLA handling claims and saw things I thought I would never see again, then I went through Sandy.

I was way up north and watched coverage every day all day for days. I was breaking down just from that so I know being there had to be traumatic.

Lost everything I had in life except 3 days worth of clothes and a vehicle. It was tough, but much better off ten years later.

I was 19 and my apartment in BR was flooded/powerless and then I was "volunteered" by my stepdad to go down there about a week after to help my great uncle and his crews of messicans clean up city park. It was a nightmare and the air smelled awful. Military police everywhere. I saw a couple of crackheads too.

Watched my 85 year old grandmother, whom
had lived in Nola for all 85 of those years, lose her house in Lakeview, move to Atlanta and waste away til she died. All she wanted to do was go back to her house that was flooded and never understood why she couldn't go back. Truly awful.

My wife worked at DOTD. They had empty buses lined up that no one would get on

Years later she went to DHH, and saw the papers on the 3 workers that got raped in the Dome

I lived in jackson at the time and it didn't really seem that bad when it was coming through but we were without power for I think 11 days and getting gas for a generator was pretty much impossible. That's nothing compared to what the folks in NO went through but damn it was hot

Same for me. I was living on the beach in Orange Beach and no power for 8 days. Miserably hot for those 8 days. Like living in an oven. Amazing how far and wide Katrina's effect and damage extended.

It was like watching LSU blow a huge halftime lead against TN at Tiger Stadium. Then immediately following the game driving pissed off to a hotel in Houston because your house was flooded.

Thanks for the memories Les
