I had the same car. Same thing happened. Gave it to St Vincent de Paul. They picked it up from the shop so it was easy. You only get the price sold at auction for the tax write off. I got $1500 or so. This was in 2008.

I am betting that you can find someone to drop a motor in pretty cheap...check out the book value of the car vs the cost of a motor and make the decision based on that.

Found several places that sell motors for about $1250 incl shipping. Going to look for labor pricing tomorrow.
