I've decided I don't want to pay whatever turbotax wants to rape me for this year.

I think last year they made everyone upgrade to the Turbo Tax premier for those who had investments. I think with all the state charges, efile charges that they have been levying, it's been above $50 to use their software.

What do y'all recommend?

TIA

Sounds like you don't make enough money to even file.

Go get a professional to do your taxes and let me know how much they charge you.

I work for a CPA firm and it's usually over $200

TaxAct.

I used to use this for easy returns but switched to Turbo Tax a few years ago because of issues with it TaxAct, dunno if they have fixed them.

For the non complicated returns (or nobody on the OT) the free versions work well.

I've got to claim something to launder the money.

I pay $165 state and federal for turbo tax, I'm sure there are cheaper options, but TT works so good with Quickbooks.

I used Turbo Tax for a decade. I tried the H&R Block last year. I like it better. Everything imported in from the Turbo Tax files.

eta: H&R Block Software

So tired of that douchy attitude... Do you know that most CPAs hand your shite over to one of the junior people and all they do is plug it into a software system?

I used to get charged $800/year. Now I do it myself. It's not hard.

H&R Block for the past seven years. Watch for the sales and you can get it for twenty bucks.

I've been using Turbotax for the past few years. All the fee were about equal, and TT was the most user friendly.

But TT seems to have increased in cost this year. So I may be shopping around also.

Is that high? My tax prep costs ~$700 each year. My company pays for it, but I imagine that's normal for a professional for my situation (normal investments, multiple states).

I did due diligence before I started using H&R Block and the reviews were a toss-up. If you're using Intuit to manage your finances, that's a pretty compelling reason to use TurboTax. Otherwise it's overpriced and there are better alternatives.
