Indiana is white trash, but that's not the same thing as weird. Half the white population in the country is some degree of white trash. So it's pretty normal to be trashy.

Portlandia is weird. Steven King-type Mainers are weird. Crazy arse people who were too bizarre for their own family and friends and decided to go to Alaska to be among their kind are weird.

White trash is standard.

It's fundamental, inherent, intrinsic... I mean, no one is saying y'all are actively doing it now, but due to the way things were laid out in the past, be that restrictions in the past based on deed restrictions, or issues with loans, or decisions to build the projects all in one place, or whatever. In the present, in the NE, the layout of the neighborhoods in terms of who lives where is solidly white in one vast area, and darkness over in a completely separate area.In the south and west, for the most part, everyone is intermixed in terms of where they live.

Says the guy who was happily pimping Austin for not having many minorities when the city has plenty and you don't see them where you live b/c the it's segregated to the point the fricking highway was placed where it is to cut blacks and Hispanics off from the white side of town.

The South and West are just as bad as the NE when it comes to cities being segregated in the exact way you mentioned. Texas cities are especially guilty of it.

Yeah, I was gonna say Louisiana too. But that's not meant to be insulting. Louisiana is by far the most unique state. That's also why it's one of my favorite.

The PNW is a bubble unto itself and has two cities where the people are just "different" and operate on a separate speed and stoned-out wavelength than the rest of the country: Portland and Seattle.

And most of those people came from California and brought the weirdness with them...

I live in WA and didn't think it was weird until I went to Portland and it seemed completely normal to me.

Maine immediately came to mind. Florida has its unusual suspects but from my time in the military, every freaking person from Maine was an absolute weirdo. I don't even know where the f Maine is but I don't ever want to go there.

Ed Gein and Jeffrey Dahmer were from Wisconsin. It doesn't get any weirder than those two.

I was just explaining the facts. Not making a judgement on them.

And you may want to check what it's like on the other side of that highway you reference these days. What you are saying was true, 10 years ago. It's increasingly gentrified now. The people you are talking about got pushed out to Pfulgerville when their landlords cashed in on rising land values and their shacks were redeveloped into townhouses.
