What sort of contractor would you call to demolish something?

I have a shed that I want taken down. What sort of contractor does that work? Any recommendations?

You can't do it? Get a couple buddies and some beer and go to town on it.

Taken apart or demolished? I've got a few pounds of tannerite.

Depending on what it is made out of you should be able to find someone to take it down if it's decent material.

There just isn't hardly a better time than whacking the shite out of something with a sledgehammer. Good exercise and it makes you feel more like man.

ummm If I didn't want to do it myself, I'd just grab a couple of Mexicans down at the Home Depot to do it.

If you don't have a truck/trailer to haul the trash, you can get a dumpster bag and still come out cheaper than hiring a GC

Well, it's partially attached to the house by roof. Otherwise yeah I'd get a sawzall and a sledgehammer. But I don't want to frick up my house in the process.

1) Wait until the wife leaves the house
2) Take it down yourself
3) Tell the wife you paid someone else to tear it down
4) Spend the money on new rod and reel.

I'll tell you how I handled this situation recently...

Craiglist ad, "Free shed, you remove from property."

Buy a 12 pack of beer.

Watch other people take it apart and haul it off for free.

If it's in BR I'll do it.

I had a porch cover that was rotting out which was (somewhat) attached to the roof. I called a local handyman service who did it without any damage to the roof.

If it's on the NS, I'll take it off of your hands. I could use the sheet metal to build my dog a nice doggy house.

To do demolition work?

That would be a.....(ummmm, what's the word?).... Demolition Contractor.

Yeah, that's it.

Where are you?

General construction contractor would be the place to start. Some guys have crews dedicated to demo and seek out that work as a sideline or supplement. I would negotiate if you're going to let them take everything of value that's built in - sweeten the deal to cut your price.

Good news - it's just labor and equipment. Bad news, it's a lower overall profit margin (than construction or remodeling) and dangerous, so you may be quoted more than you expect.

I'm not sure a demo contractor would bid on a small job like taking out a shed.

But if you can find some of its employees, offer them cash and beer, they may do it on the side.
