As I said look back at your rants. Hell, even Katrina duty was more dangerous than hiding below deck in your little boat.

you guys exemplify the military, the pissing contest, intra-service rivalry/hatred only stops when the combat begins, then everyone is a band of brothers

The wars are over too so I'll probably never have to deploy.

I remember saying that when I reenlisted June of '01.

my peers were all pissing and moaning that there would be no war to fight(and some that were pissing and moaning when it came time to pay for all of that training,), things have a way of changing, everyone got their fill..."there shall be war, and rumors of war," I've seen that somewhere

You realize that guard and reserve were used heavily to ease the deployment burden of active duty troops in Iraq/Afghanistan right?

Right..So one year out of their nine year enlistment....Must suck...

Never leave a man behind - but seriously, I would consider making an exception for GK.

Nah, you'd go get him. And then proceed to call him a douche the whole way back to the choppa.

No you didn't. Prove you were on the Cole in and in Yemen in 2000. I've read enough of your bull. You are an ignorant bitter person that has no understanding of what true sacrifice is and what others go through serving in various branches and capacities. You are wrong on so many levels it's ridiculous. Must not be working out for you in civilian world huh? Let me guess you are an OT baller making more money than anyone on this board right? I retract that then. You need therapy for your resentment and need to be deployed next week for a year and see if it causes you any grief.

Got a slot with the TACP unit here in LA. Should be kinda cool.

Thats cool, I'm pretty sure you can get Airborne and Air Assault out of that if you havent been.
And I have never been a fan of the way the Corps treats its people, shite even the Army treats people better.
Good luck

Thanks bro. Airborne is a requirement for that unit. Of course they get quotas for Air Assualt and all those other ninja courses that the Marines are too cheap to send people to as well.

Does the military send you a lot of recruiting literature when you're in high school?

20 page thread, only skimmed the 1st 2 pages but yes. For a couple of months before and after my 18th birthday I got mail from all of them and at least one call from the Marines. I imagine it's common place.

Yeah my family has had a few members serve in various branches. I met with a Navy recruiter a few times and my cousin had joined the AF and done well in the pre-testing they do but like an idiot got a DUI like 2 weeks before he was off to basic, got kicked out before he even got in. However my grandfather was the same as you. He was drafted, served, and wounded in the Vietnam War, he strongly discouraged both of us from serving.

I ended up not joining the Navy, went to college and more than happy with my decision, but there are undoubtedly times that I wish I had joined, or at least tried.

Believe it or not, I was motivated by movies I watched as a kid growing up. Audie Murphy's "To Hell & Back" was probably the most influential. I just knew for all of my teenage years that I was going to be in one of the military services. Vietnam was going strong and I felt that it was my duty to serve like many of my family members before me.

I said I was on Her AFTER the bombing..I was one of the first crew to serve after she left Pascagoula. Losing 17 shipmates doesn't mean I was there. I'm sure any branch considers members who died before they got to a particular duty station that they spent any time at consider those guys Shipmates, brothers, etc. Oddly enough, Geauxxxtigers23 could vouch for my serving there...
