What kind of relationship do you have with your neighbors?

This week we've had two threads that displayed a strange fear of interacting with neighbors.

One was a guy whose kids were being woken up by a neighbor using a remote control car at 7pm in the evening.

The other is a guy who wants to build a fence but doesn't know how to approach his neighbor about doing so.

I can't help but think these guys (and others with similar issues) are hesitant to build relationships with their neighbors.

If my neighbor was running a loud car in the evening, it would be no problem to talk to him about it because I would have formed a friendly relationship with him a while before the issue started. If I wanted to build a fence, I could easily tell my neighbor about it because we would know each other well enough to be on speaking terms.

Sometimes they start mooing but they're usually pretty quiet. I don't bother them... they don't bother me. Sometimes the bull will get close to the fence and look at me funny... I think he thinks I'm trying to frick his women.

Helped one another with sprinkler problems. Wave at each other when we see one another. Not much beyond that. I like them, but I don't want to put in the effort to make them more than great acquaintances.

My neighbors on either side of me are Father and son. The daughter/sister built my house originally. They have basically adopted us. They take care of the yard while we are gone. We get together and BBQ/crawfish boil. We watch their kids when they go out for dinner and visa versa. It's really great. The guy across the street is a hermit and doesn't bother us; we don't bother him.

Live in a condo.. Basically say hello in passing. Pretty much the same relationship I have with the other 58 units in the building.

Friendly with the people on either side of me, but rarely see them. Good friends with a couple across the street. I feel really fortunate to have been blessed with good neighbors, and try to be one myself.

On my right is the occasional chit chat, we know each other's names. To the left is a 75 year old man, and him telling me to not let my dog shite in his yard has been the extent of our conversation.

Couldn't tell you their name. guy behind me owns half the block but, i only see him when he comes to hit on the MIL.

Friendly, help each other out from time to time, but I mind my own business and so do they.

Parents live on one side of my, brother across the street from them, across the street from my house is a couple that is our age, with a little girl. I cook at least once a week for my family, usually Sunday. And we hang out iwth the other neighbors at least a couple times a month. We watch/ take care of each others places when wer gone. Feed the animals, check the mail, cut the grass if theyre gone for a while.
The lady that used to live in the house next door was a hugh PITA, always had something to bitch about, glad she left.

pretty good with neighbors to north

ok with neighbor to south

not great with the ones with dogs who bark at leaves rustling....
not great with the other one whose dog barks at ans chases after cars [ crazy assed dalmation ]

had a mexican neighbor who partied a few times a year with total disregard to disturbing the peace with his music to all hours. [ I slept on the opposite side so the noise wasn't an issue for me ]
he was across the alley....I miss him like root canal.....

We've lived at our place about 2 years and never met anyone. We've come to the conclusion that our little cul-de-sac is a Potemkin* village. This actually has its advantages in that it's such a spooky place at night, that it strongly discourages would-be intruders.

* Potemkin village, definition: an impressive facade or show designed to hide an undesirable fact or condition.

It is odd to read these threads about the anti socials with neighbor problems.

We grill, bring food over randomly, watch games in each others house or garage, hit up the local dive, etc. I just started riding trails with another neighbor who's into cycling. Feed dogs when out of town, get their mail, etc. I've always been one to get to know the neighbor. We all look out for each other on our cul-de-sac.

I have a love/hate type of relationship with our neighbors. They are nice people, but they are trashy as frick and so are everyone that goes to their home. Not the kind of people I would hang out with, but we talk every once in a while.

We get along great with ours. We don't live right on top of each other which seems to cut down on petty conflicts.
