George W addressing the nation the night of 9/11.
Watching coverage Sunday night as Katrina was coming ashore while hearing my dad on the phone with family who decided to stay.

Sports:
Bartman/Cubs game. Frick.
Tracy Porter interception. Greatest moment ever.
Tiger's chip at the Masters with the Nike logo sitting on the edge. Nike creamed their pants at that moment too.

I was randomly tuned in when Ron Artest went into the stands in Detroit.

Me too. Senior year of HS in BR for all-state choir. Our choir director took us all to Chili's and I had a clear shot of the bar TV showing the game. The next thing I knew all hell had broken loose.

FWIW, the moon landing was not exactly live on TV. NASA had decided that if something went really wrong during the mission it would be better not to have it broadcast live. There was a short delay between what happened and what you saw on network TV, giving them time to kill the video feed before it went on the air.

9/11 is an easy choice, but I didn't see any of the coverage live until I got home from work that night.

One of my earliest stories I remember following live, outside of sports, was the rescue of baby Jessica.

My father would probably say the death of Lee Harvey Oswald.

Was living in Omaha at the time, but a major tornado (f4 I believe) missed omaha and was heading up towards rural iowa. They had a storm chaser following it live and the tornado turned towards a boy scout camp. This particular day there was a huge boy scout convention and they all huddled up in the basement. The storm chaser followed it and we watched the entire camp get leveled on live tv. Lots of kids died that day...sad shite.

Shock and Awe. Every evening we were in the lab in dental school watching it unfold as we worked. Pretty cool to watch.

I remember watching that shootout in Cali in the 90's live on CNN, where the gunmen were in heavy body armor. Guys were trussed up like the Michelin Man, could barely walk, just spraying his AK. Cops were peppering him, but nobody was getting through the armor (and no head shots).
That was the one where the cops went into a gun store to get some AR's. And yes, they reported that too
