If you could just name one, what is the best?

For me, The Mote in God's Eye.

When I was a freshman in highschool I remember a lot of people reading Enders Game and going wild for it. I never got around to it. I've thought about going back to it.

Excellent choice. Did you also read the sequel ?

I would also recommend Asimov's Foundation series and also The Robots of Dawn.

I did. Bought it for $0.50 at a garage sale (hardback too!).

I've liked a lot of collections of short stories over the years- older stuff like Bradbury, Orwell, Asimov. But I think my favorite sci-fi book is still A Wrinkle In Time.

Honestly haven't read much in the genre in the last 15-20 years or so. Once I was I college, my reading tastes shifted a lot. But I wouldn't mind reading some new stuff.
