A former army ranger putting a co worker into the Darth Vader chokehold after he kept sniping and sniping about his coding technique.

It was unfortunate we had to fire the ranger.. He was a cool guy but he had had enough.

Damn. How does that happen? Was she alright?

That was the only time I've ever seen it. This was over a year ago though. Iirc it was because she was so constipated that she started vomiting poop. Poor little girl was terrified and crying(as one would imagine) when this happened. I think she made a full recovery once it was determined the constipation was causing it.

Poor little girl. Glad she recovered though. That would scare the hell out of me as a father.

What made it worse was that she had no parents with her in the hospital that night. I don't remember why, just remember she was by herself crying when I walked into her room and saw what happened. Can you imagine being 5 or so and all by yourself and that happens?

Lady at my job had a Gargoyle on top of her cubicle to keep the evil "spirits" away.

She had a bottle under her desk that she drank water out of that was an empty Jack Daniel's bottle. True story.

She was fired for being habitually late. Strange duck.

What? They left her there alone?!? WTF? When my little girl was in the hospital a couple years ago for a staph infection on the bottom of her foot, either both of us or at least one of us was right there with her the whole time. I couldn't imagine one of my kids in the hospital and leaving them there alone.

For me - had a patient who was told to do a urine drug test (high on the job) instead poop in the cup.

For my dad who worked in a federal government building with a small FBI office - several times a month they would go to the stall in the bathroom and one of the FBI guys would have left his gun in there.

I worked in a hoarder's house in Bywater (an area near the quarter in NOLA) and it was so full of stuff that he actually had a trap door to a crawl space so he could get out the back, since the back two rooms were so filled up of stuff, the back door was inaccessible.
His fridge was out, it took ten minutes to clear a path to the fridge and fifteen more to clean around the fridge. I couldn't even open the fridge it was so full of junk in there, when he did open it, it was full of rotten meats and cheeses and milks and smelled worse than death. After seeing 4-5 rats, I just told him I can't do this then left. He was very upset at me, especially when I told him I was disgusted by his house and way of living.

He wrote me a bad Yelp review. FML.

We don't allow younger siblings/relatives/friends to visit during certain times of the year(flu season) and we never let siblings under 18 stay the night(liability issues for the hospital). For some of these parents...they have no one else to watch their other children at night so they are not able to stay with the child in the hospital overnight. So it's not like they were just abandoning the child or anything...it was likely a situation similar to what I just explained(again...I can't remember all the details as it was over a year ago).

At my old bomber squadron, we gave a dude the callsign "Hot Rod" because he went to piss (in the jet) right after another dude, and didn't know that the hose from the urinal to the piss can had a kink and was backed up.

We were doing night ops and he didn't want to wash out the pilot's NVGs, so he just pissed in the dark. Didn't see that the receptacle was full of warm piss, just whipped out his dong and dipped it right in so as to not spray it everywhere. Considerate.

So yeah..."Hot Rod". In fact, at the time...we had at least 5 people whose callsigns involved piss or poop. Scat, Gold'n, Piston, PIMP, PINTS, etc.

Good times.

Our older son had a number of hospitalizations, some at Children's Hospital and some at Tulane. Saw lots of this and felt really bad for some of the kids.

One adolescent was often hospitalized for weeks at a time with complications from spina bifida. We shared a room for a week or so. He was sweet and lonely, but there's no way his parents could be with him. I ordered a pizza one night and shared it with him. He told me no one (meaning other patient families) had ever even spoken to him, much less asked if he wanted something (I'd occasionally get him a soft drink when I went down to the cafeteria). Makes you think.

One parent go home with the other kid(s) while the other stays at the hospital with their sick child. That's how we did it.

Yeah but what if it's a single mom? Or...and we see a lot of this....mom is here in the US but Dad was just deported back to Mexico, leaving her to raise the kids on her own. And sometimes, even when there are two parents, one of them may be the sole provider for the family and may have a job that isn't forgiving of missing work for any reason. Sometimes those families have to make tough decisions. They could lose their job if they stay the night and then lose their home, etc.

We are always understanding if family cannot stay. We always try our best to not make them feel guilty for leaving and assure them that their child will be very well cared for while they are gone and that they can call at any time to check up on their child.
