Do they really have no idea the value Exxon brings to Baton Rouge in tax revenues and residual tax benefits? I think an LSU economist pointed out that 1 in 10 jobs in the parish is connected to Exxon directly. LINK

People don't acknowledge facts anymore. Feelings are more important that facts.

True, but even stupid people have an end game or motive, not sure what they stand to benefit by making a major industry think about packing up.

I guess they feel like people did about the Film Tax Credits.

I know Exxon brings a LOT more to the table than Hollywood movies but I can only assume that's their platform is that Exxon gets too much of a break.

I personally think they should shut the frick up and go after Gaming. After all, when gambling was legalized in 1991, the ENTIRE platform centered around ~22% of all profits from gaming going DIRECTLY to education. where is all that money?

According to the Together Baton Rouge analysis, if granted in full, the 22 exemptions on the table would cost East Baton Rouge Parish $11.5 million in year one and $71.1 million over an eight-year period. East Baton Rouge Parish schools together with public schools in Zachary would lose $5.2 million in year one and $32.1 million over eight years.

Yet they just pushed for a millage that gives $8 million/year to the COA.

Un-goddamn-believable. These people are thieves that think they're entitled to your, and other people's money. If they spent it wisely, I would consider giving more, but they piss it away like a 16 year old girl.

Loren Scott’s response and worth the read. These people are really reaching out and trying to screw this city in a very bad way. Like it or not Exxon is a must for this area and while they will never leave they certainly can stop considering Baton Rouge for future investment.

A loud voice needs to step up and rebut these people and if we are all deemed racist so be it. All of these issues are going to the extreme and the majority of people in BR complain under their breath.

Same place the gas tax money is. Scattered across a million other political special interest boondoggles. I'll never vote for another tax again.

These people have the combined Intelligence of a peanut.

They have no grasp on economics or what funds their infrastructure. As pathetic as it is at present, try and imagine taking Exxon out of the equation and see what you get.

I'd rather see them argue for intelligent spending by their own peers. Throwing more money at a problem will not solve it.

Pretty sure that money is given to education. However, the state just cut their own direct funding proportionally, so education was no better off.

It's similar to how "no tax dollars pay for abortions at Planned Parenthood," yet the government funding all of the other services allows private donations to fund abortions rather than overhead.

Exxon, and the rest of the industrial district, is actually on unincorporated land. So, a movement to incorporate them would bring a lot more revenue to the city government. This is nothing but a ploy to squeeze more tax dollars from industry.

What a game plan. Run off, or eliminate the future expansion of one of the biggest industries in the area so you can give more money to people who piss it away on teaching kids that continue to finish close to the bottom in the state because their parents don't give a frick about their education.

This myth that more money = better education is absolutely maddening. I guarantee we could give EBRPSS a billion dollars a year and the scores would increase in any significant way. The only thing that would increase is the amount of teachers driving new cars.

These dumb asses are costing the city/state millions of dollars. ExxonMobil is investing huge $$ in growth ventures right now. The Baton Rouge complex will get crumbs compared to Texas !
