what purpose do they serve and will I get punished if I destroy it. I heard you can destroy it if you microwave your license for a little bit.

Probably just so the cop can read it with a swiper w/o entering your number and as an anti counterfeit deal. I would imagine that disabling it would be like modifying the document in any other way, which is illegal.

RF scanners are everywhere. Hasn't anyone noticed how they always say they don't do this or don't do that - yet every time some event happens, within a couple hours they tells us that cell phone records show this, credit cards show that, license plate seen here, and so forth?

Wake up people. Get your tin foil hat properly shaped immediately. This is important!

They use RFID chips on property to do inventory, track movements, etc. If you think it isn't used like that, just because it's in your wallet, you're crazy.

If you're concerned that it might be, keep it wrapped in aluminum foil and that should prevent them from using it to track you. And, they'd have to be very close to you.

The equipment that could is so damn expensive that only the feds and a few major cities could afford it anyway. They have their hands full with Ahkmed, dope slingers, counterfeiters, etc., so I doubt they're interested in tracking you, unless there's a good reason to be....

We use RFID capsules in O&G to pump down the well for activating or deactivating downhole tools.

I dont know what they use them for or if its illegal to nuke them. But they can definitely be used to track your movements. Im not a fan of them. But honestly a bunch of your shite already has rfid chips in them, your tires, license plate etc.

Saves money that way.

I know the police routinely wrap phones in it while awaiting a warrant to search it - keeps them from using the remote erase function.
