Also.....Awesome private schools in the city (SSA, St Paul's Christwood, Northlake Christian, etc) but yes, Covington High is a dump.

This is Covington. Fun fact- one of those guys is in jail for double murder.
Again, I'm not shitting in Covington. It's one of the nicest towns in the state, but to say that little area isn't ghetto is ridiculous.
For you to portray it is a hot bed of violence and a semblance of inner-city gang life is what is ridiculous and what is being met with resistance. It is patently false. For the most part it is quiet with occasional incidents.
Yes, there are criminal elements at work there- but there are also good, honest, people who have lived and worked there with honor for all their lives.
It is ridiculous that you try to force the issue so you can equivocate gang violence and Street violence to Covington. You are literally making a mountain out of a molehill.

Property taxes are ridiculous there. Traffic is unreal. That being said it's worth every penny to live in the Covington and Mandeville. Safe environment and great people.
The only problem I see, is that it's developing too fast for its own good. The economy for that area is down compared to what it once was.

Some of y'all on here probably never seen and interacted with minorites.
They've heard rap music. I imagine that's their experience.

As far as suburbs go in the southeast, Covington/Mandeville are pretty good. The restaurant scene and fun events are pretty solid.
Hell, that areas restaurants are almost as good as Baton Rouge.
When compared to the BR suburbs I would pick Covington everytime

Safe environment
Except for when a a foot or more of water is flowing through your house, which happened last spring in areas that were not designated flood zones. And while the rains were heavy, human factors played a big part. The Northshore is massively overbuilt, with subdivisions constructed where they should have prohibited. It's only going to get worse, thanks to politicians and real estate developers in bed with each other.
IYAM the real estate industry and associated businesses are some of the worst people on earth. They take a place and ruin it to line their own pockets.

i'd love to see some old maps and pics of the area from the 70s and 80s. I grew up in Abita and have a few pics from there. I'm 44 and can remember when we got the first McDonalds. It really was a great place to grow up. Both of my parents from here as well. My mom's grandparents moved over from New Orleans just after 1900. I used to love hearing the family's stories. i wish the family had bought more land like the Blossman's and such when they first came here lol.

Three of those guys have degrees in economics from LSU.
The other two read The Bell Curve, but majored in biology.
