Not at all.

However I've owned two f150's. One had 90,000 miles before I sold it and my current one has 153,000. Haven't had a major issue with either. In fact the only problems I've had we're a fuel pump and O2 sensor.

I've owned one GMC.

I'm going with Ford based on personal experience here.

I understand Ford makes a good truck, but you have to look at all the makes on the whole. Just because you bought one and had an issue doesn't mean they all will. My family doesn't buy Ford anymore because we had bad luck with them years ago, but I don't shite all over them...I think they make a great product today. Same goes for all the other makes and models...they're all good right now.

And fwiw, GM auto transmissions are some of the better ones on the market...I know a lot of guys running built or slightly modified ones in some high hp cars and trucks.

I love my new Sierra. Slight problem with the recall but its just a computer issue. I like the F-150s but I've never felt comfortable driving them. I, peraonally will never drive another Chrysler od Chrysler associated product. Had a horrible experience with one years back and it was enough to skur me forever. My boss just bought a new Tundra and he raves about it.

Stay away from Chrysler . If you ever need to put it in the shop there customer service is horrible . Have also had terrible experience with ford so I would go eight gm or yota. Yota is just so expensive

I'm on my second Tundra crew cab (2013 Limited) had a 2005 that I traded in on this one (205,000) - I like them. Dunno about labeling it the best - that is in the eye of the owner. Seems all of the newer model trucks are good - image it is how you take care of them.

And that's why the half tons have torque management now? Turn it off and your transmission goes bye bye

The new 6 speed is a dog. Drive one and you'll know what I'm talking about

That's how it is for them all now. They all have torque mgt. I don't think disabling it automatically = fried trans though...aside from wanting to race the truck, or car or whatever, not really sure why you'd need to disable it anyway. A buddy of mine has a 700rwhp f-body Camaro with a built 4l60e, no issues I know of yet...if you're looking to make power, beef it up a little bit and add some extra cooling features like a deep trans pan and larger trans cooler and it should be fine...assuming you have a competent tuner too.

It's really not that new. The 6l80 has been around for at least 7 or 8 years now. I also think GM has plans to replace it in the half ton trucks soon.

If just for occasional moving stuff or not doing heavy towing, F150. I get pretty decent gas mileage and they are really comfortable.

And the throttle body that will leave you stranded on the side of the road. And the broken window regulators. And the TPMS sensors that refuse to get relearned and a trip to the dealership is warranted.

Want me to go on?

I am talking about the 6L80E in the new trucks. Read anywhere about someone with a programmer that turns TM off and they will say that they have broken a transmission

I believe that trans was introduced in 07 or 08 and have driven trucks with it. It just acts funny and the shifts do not feel right at all

10-4. Full disclosure I hate the 5 speed in my Ram. I've never had an issue with it but I would kill to get a new 8 speed truck...seems most of the 5 and 6 speed half ton truck transmissions shift odd. The ZF 8 speeds have actually been getting some praise, hopefully they are durable as well.

I can see transmissions with 6, 7, or 8 gears having a purpose in a car, but they have no business being in a truck that actually tows things. Yeah its good for the 70% of guys that hook up a trailer for a few hours a year because they get better fuel mileage, but for someone who actually uses a truck, they end up just searching for the right gear all of the time making more heat, and not allowing the torque converter to fully lock out. It is just stupid

Towing heavy in the hills or mountains = lots of searching = heat = burnt up transmissions

Yeah, you might get praise from that 70%, but for the people who actually use trucks as trucks, you'll hear lots of complaints

Not a shot at the OP, but I hate these threads. Last I saw most of these companies had the same amount of lemons per 1000 units. So essentially take care of your truck and your truck will take care of you. Narrow down which ones fit your needs from each company and go test drive. I don't know many people who have had major issues with their trucks that they couldn't attribute to something dumb like not changing the oil. It usually boils down to price tag, a few bells and whistles, or having a biased view of a company. I personally find Ford to be more comfortable. That being said, GM has really kicked it up a notch in that department for me.

Not sure what my '11 Tahoe has, but it does some funky shifting sometimes. Maybe its this trans...

I have a buddy with a 2-3 yr old limited Tundra. It's pretty nice, but I have to agree with the other guy who posted here...technology isn't on par with the fords, it isn't that comfortable and everything is plastic. I know they all use composite materials on the interiors, but the Tundra just feels like it has more. My perfect truck would be a ford interior (including technology) with GMC body. Ford just has a ton more room on the inside...I don't understand why GM keeps putting out the same cabs...if you're in the 6' +/- range you're going to get uncomfortable on a road trip in the back seat of a GM.

Also, for the high mileage guys out there...I still have a '99 GMC Sierra K2500 crew cab 5.7 gas rig that has 260,000 mi on it. Had to replace fuel pump once, one set of wheel bearings once and radiator once after living a full winter season in central NY with all the salt they use on the roads. It currently has a refrigerant leak in the ac compressor and the door locks/windows don't work like they used to. Love that truck...will probably never get rid of it.

Edmunds begs to differ:
quote:

Gearchanges are nearly imperceptible, owing to more closely spaced gears and smaller rpm jumps. Hunting is pretty much absent for the same reasons. And the Ram's cabin isolation is substantially more effective. The Pentastar's engine sounds are refined yet remote, more outside than inside.

If you're talking about the Active Fuel Management System, it's been around for quite a while. I have a 2008 with 165k on it and it's never had any transmission problems.

Then Edmunds is a bunch of idiots. The guy two posts above that probably hasn't ever towed anything with his Tahoe notices it.

Most people notice it. They just don't work well in trucks. What I said is the 100% truth
