didnt know you couldnt box after lasik.... i just spar but damn..
my whole surgery was around 2300. I went with razor but highest level or laser technology to remove the light "rings" or what not.
best money i ever spent. was very impressed with Jeffrey Singers operation.

Just be very careful. The cut they make to perform Lasik never fully heals so if a glove rubs across your eye it can pull the lens off. That would really suck and I actually know someone that had it happen in a MMA fight.

Mine was pretty expensive. I was about -6 in both eyes with an astigmatism, so I opted for the both he bladeless and wavefront add-ons. Came out to $1600/eye.
Ditto.
Mine was something like $1,600 or $1,700 per eye, though my insurance provided a $300 per eye discount (yippee). I believe it was roughly $2,700 total for my LASIK a few years ago.
I was -7.5 in both eyes so I opted for bladeless as well with the lifetime warranty. It's probably the best thing I've ever done for myself. I have dry eyes, so living with contacts (I never wore glasses) was terrible and a constant battle with them falling out or drying up in my eyes. Trust me, pay whatever it costs. LASIK is worth every penny. I can't explain how awesome it is to not only have great vision, but also to not have to worry about remembering contact supplies when you're heading out of town.
As for the surgery itself, I didn't feel a thing (though you can smell them burning your eye if you go bladeless) and went home and slept it off. The 20 minute ride home absolutely sucked because it was an extremely bright day that day, but I popped like 3 Advil PM and went to sleep. Woke up like 7 hours later and went grocery shopping with my wife. Mowed the yard two days later.

What is the difference between PRK and LASIK?
Also just realized bbap signed up two days before I did.

From the LASIK website:
quote:
PRK vs LASIK - What are the differences?
In LASIK, an eye surgeon makes an incision (with either a laser or a blade) in the cornea to create a flap of tissue. The flap of tissue is lifted so the laser can be applied to reshape the inner layers of the cornea. The computer-controlled surgical laser carefully reshapes the layers of the cornea to repair imperfections in curvature that lead to distorted vision. The corneal flap is then put back in place and heals over the reshaped part of the cornea in a few days.
In PRK, the eye surgeon does not create a flap of corneal tissue. Instead, the outer layer of the cornea is removed to expose an area for a laser to reshape. This makes PRK a better choice for people whose eyes meet certain criteria, such as having thin corneas or chronically dry eyes.
From what I could find, LASIK recovery is quicker and less painful.

With PRK, I didn't have to worry about rubbing my eyes and messing up the flap that is cut when getting LASIK. Essentially I got the PRK in aprox 15 minutes and was already able to see much better. The next day I woke up and saw a little better with no problems. The third and fourth days after surgery my eyes felt like they were on fire. I could barely open them, and when I did any sort of light made them hurt and water like a faucet. Wasn't too bad after that.

ok. $1500 is what i was quoted. i dont mind spending money on quality work when you're talking about eyes, i just wanted to get a feel for the market.
Prolly not the time to go to a place that offers a buy one get one free.....

I've seen a groupon for LASIK if you want to have it done in Shreveport.

I looked into it through Williamson Eye Center and they quoted 3200.00 for both eyes. Do you know if you can get lasik if you have Diabetes? I was told your vision deteriorates over time and it is not worth getting it.

Yes you can. Your vision shouldn't deteriorate if you take care of yourself. Yu could end up with cataracts(sp) later in life but your vision should remain fine if you keep your A1C readings in the 6.0 range.

I had PRK on a Wednesday morning, and the following nights and days were extremely, unbelievably painful. The only relief I had were numbing drops that let you open your eyes for about 30 minutes, and then after that, the pain comes back. It can't be stressed enough how intense that pain was.
During those moments when I could open my eyes though, I had perfect vision that I still have to this day. By Saturday night I was fine. I think I even bought a PlayStation game and played it that night.

I remember the pain was horrible for two days and started to subside but that was when I had to go in for the check-up and the contacts were removed causing the pain to come back. It really was a very unpleasant operation but I am very glad I did it now.

The only problem with traveling for the surgery is traveling for the follow up visits

I had mine done by Dr. Charles Williamson in 2006 and highly reccomend him. If I remember right, it was $2800 at the time.

With my LASIK, I was terrified of rubbing my eye in the slightest bit for about a year afterward. It wasn't too bad, though, because there was really no longer a need to rub my eyes without contacts.
Light sensitivity was sort of a problem for me for about a year. Even with sunglasses, I'd get headaches on sunny days, and driving during the day was really hard the summer after I had it done. Now I only wear polarized sunglasses, and it's subsided on its own. I had my surgery in April of 2011, so it's been almost 3 years to the day.

You have it backwards. If you're a candidate for LASIK, you're a candidate for PRK. However, if you're not a candidate for LASIK, you may still be a candidate for PRK.
