What is a good watch brand to wear only to nice functions?

I already have a Victorinox that was suppose to be my nice watch, it cost me around $900 but I wear the dang thing everyday because my other watch broke. I'm not really big into Gold I think it looks cheesy but for some reason my next watch I'd like it to have some gold on it, or possibly even the whole thing gold. It would have to look good of course though.
I wouldn't want to spend any more than $1,200 on this watch...so there is something to play with. Thanks

Seiko, Citizen, Polar, Steinhart, etc. offer many nice watch models (some of them very similar to popular, upscale watches from Rolex, Omega, etc.) which are more affordable to own.
Or.....look for pre owned gold/stainless date just Rolex.

Patek Philippe is in the same price category as Rolex but carries a more dignified air about it.
Every douch bag with a few extra dollars buys a Rolex. Though they're nice, wearing one has become about a half-step away from the same realm as driving an Escalade as a white guy.
I'm no watch snob and certainly don't own a plethora of high end watches, but what a man wears on his wrist says a lot about him.
I love my Omega - the only watch ever on the moon, the first watch in space (worn by an American) and the current Bond watch. Class with history.

Neither in his price range, nor are 99% of the models what I'd consider one would wear at a nice function. Maybe the Superocean Heritage.

Just read this part. Seiko has some nice options in this range.
And if you're looking to have something to say about the watch, Seiko has the only truly continuous sweep second hand (certain models). All other brands have actual ticks. Rolex ticks a upwards of 20-50 times per second, Omega has a model that ticks around 100 times per second, other brands carry similar designs.

I do like the Omega's I wouldn't mind spending more than what I listed I just wouldn't want to drop a shite ton on a watch when I've been wanting to buy a custom Kimber 1911...so if the watches cost got up to that I'd spend it on the pistol

Seiko SARB 033 for under $500.
Seiko Alpinist for $300-$400

This.
Or Hamilton.
Or Marathon. Marathon's are a bit more sporty though. But so is a Rolex Submariner and you can wear a Sub anywhere.

Patel is NOT in the same "price category" as Rolex. Patek is a MUCH better watch and more expensive. Not even in the same league.

I like Movado and Hamilton. Especially the Hamilton Ventura series. Very eye catching. Check out Jomashop for great prices and services online.

I believe Rolex has 5 or 6 ticks per second, and omega has 8. I can hear them

Big mistake. Gold is for Democrats.
