Always bring my cart back to the store when I'm done. It's what decent people do
Eta: also very rarely buy enough groceries to need cart after I check out

My first job was collecting those carts at a grocery store. By leaving it out there I'm assuring future generations of young people employment.
They would still have to get them out of the coralls and back in the store, dumbass

We try to park close to the corral so that it's not even difficult. If no corral, I'll try to bring back to the the store, but if I'm extremely far from the store I'm not doing that. Especially if I have my toddler with me. I collected carts as part of my first job. It's not a big deal as far as the employee is concerned. It's all about blocking parking spots. If youre a mile away from the store with no corral, at least be smart and courteous about where you put it.
Another thing I'll do when I'm walking in is ask someone who just finished loading their car if they are done. That way they don't have to bring it to the corral, and the employee isn't worrying about it. But the timing has to work out.

I pick up a cart someone else left in the parking lot and ride my 55 year arse back to the store like a 13 year old on a homemade skateboard. I then leave it blocked so it won't roll, for the next a-hole to ride in.

I'd love to have that set up where you put a coin in to get the cart and you have to bring the cart back to get your coin.
How about your keys.....
You won't account for those who use public transportation and such.

Like, they were unloading groceries and died?

the parking lot becomes a graveyard for dead shopping carts

They receive a treasure in heaven for each shopping cart that helps Bubbles feed his kitties.

I've never seen it be normal to just leave the carts in the parking lot until I moved to Louisiana. In fact, shortly after I moved here somebody stopped me in the parking lot of Albertson's as I was returning a cart and asked me a question assuming I must have been an employee.

Speaking as someone who worked at a grocery store
Didn't picture you as a cart boy.
