What happened to cults?

It seemed like cults were a big thing in this country starting in the 60s. Why did it seem like there were so many cults in the country back then? Was it the introduction of drugs and the 60s that made people become cultish? Cults just don’t really seem like a big thing anymore.

Cults are everywhere now. They're just mainstream insanity now instead of something to be mocked or reported on. They are enthusiastically supported and promoted by media and the government instead of shunned and ousted.

Well religion as a whole is down, but I would definitely argue people that hold extreme views and congregate on Reddit are cults.
