I'm checking out at the grocery store. One of the items I bought was a 3 pack of big red. I always like to have gum handy, so I buy in bulk.

The girl scanning the items asks "so, you like big red, huh?" in a definite tone of sarcasm, like she was making a joke of me.

I'm like "uh...yea...just bag it".

What does the OT think of cashiers who feel the need to comment on your purchases?

They need to shut the frick up and just ring up your items and hand you the receipt and change (if paying cash) after you pay.

And frick them too.

Why are you so insecure? Doesn't mean she was making fun of you

You're so tough, man.

Tell me about it. Every time I buy my Magnums the check out girl makes some comment about how much she likes big dicks. Annoying. Just let me live.

I think it's more awkward to do the whole thing in complete silence than to at least say something ("Got a lot of stuff today, huh?"), even if it's just stupid small talk. I dunno.

I'm totally fine with having commentary on a maximum of one item, or one comment on multiple items.

I stopped at a small rural convenience store today and the cashier(s) had a tip jar. It had a note taped to it that said something like 'tip jar, not need a penny jar'.

A fricking tip for ringing up gas and a drink.....

I once purchased a single tall-boy beer, a frozen pizza, and a bag of cat food together since I've temporarily been in Chicago. The checkout lady couldn't keep it together.

I ain't ashamed.

I know they are just trying to be polite, most of the time, but I hate that shite. Just scan my items, bag em, and let me get the frick outta there. The chick at the Walgreen's near my house always tries to make small talk. Its annoying.

They are trained to do so, and most of them probably aren't going anywhere in life. I'll cut them some slack.

This one girl who was playing keep away with my receipt at Alexander's highland market after I checked out really annoyed me. She looked like precious.

Its like, wtf, are you trying to talk me out of buying things?

Maybe she was hinting that you needed deodorant instead of gum

I'm perfectly comfortable with silence.
