What Does the OT Think About HBCUs?

I traveled north of I-10 last week and saw Southern for the first time. I have since developed a fascination with HBCUs. There are currently 100 HBCUs in the United States. With an average 20% graduation rate in 6 years, some say they fall short of reasonable standards for institutions of higher education. Others claim the fact that the majority of their students come from minority groups proves they are actually over-achieving.
There are 2 of the more well-known HBCUs here in Louisiana. What does the OT think about them, and their counterparts in general?
Have they become a hindrance on the progression of the people they aim to serve?
Should they remain as a constant reminder of the history that spawned their creation?
Should they still be held to a double standard regarding graduation/retention/bar passage rates?
Have they become the very thing they were created to stamp out?
for African Americans of the OT, what do you feel about HBCUs?

No longer need to be hbcu's. Imo they use that shite as a crutch to blame piss poor graduation rates and financial woes.

There are some good ones and some bad ones.
The ones in Louisiana suck.

I wonder what people would think if the Ivy League schools described themselves as "Historically Rich White College Universities For Smart People?" Another prime example of how nothing is ever racist until a white male does it.

Schools like Howard, Hampton and Moorhouse are pretty good. They also just don't take anyone.
Hampton is basically the rich kid HBCU.

Isn't Xavier considered to be a upper tier HBCU?

If the Ivy League schools were created because white people couldn't go to other universities it probably wouldn't be looked down upon that much.

My white grandfather went to Hampton. And he was a pretty smart guy. He did cheat on my grandma though.

Aa an African American of the OT, i like what they stand for. I love the history, and tradition, and school pride. I hate the lousy academics though. Most HBCUs are shitty schools. I hate to say this as most of my family went to HBCUs, but unfortunately its true

Southern has some good programs.
Don't know how it is now but when I lived in North Louisiana Grambling was basically a dumpster fire due to really bad leadership and management.

SUNO with its abysmal graduation rate needs to be closed, they are not good ROI. Grambling either needs to be converted into a tech, trade and/or vocational school or just merge altogether with Louisiana Tech.

I think the HBCU tag should be looked at ithe way the A&M tag is looked at. Historical significance but beyond that, it really should have no bearing.
I know that most HBCU's are trying hard to diversify but this movement should have come years ago. Last I checked, they are still all majority black. Given the fact that not many environments that you end up working in after graduation will be majority black, I just feel like you're missing out on that socialization.
I never had any interest in going to one. I would share my concerns with my kids if they wanted to go, but it would be their choice.
