On a serious note when I go to them I always tell the mom and dad it's probably gonna be opposite of what they want, just to be a dick

Wait. Couples actually go around saying, "We hope it's a boy?" Holy shite. I'd feel so un-loved if I knew my parents were going around praying I was a boy.

What do they do when the gender is "revealed" as a girl? Get angry? Laugh it off?

I've seen "team boy" or "team girl", but that is just what people are guessing, not what they specifically want

The only place I've ever heard of them was on this board. Must be something new and regional.

Well count your blessings. There are announcement party, baby shower, hubby shower, couple shower, diaper shower. No god damn wonder women go into depression after the baby is born. It's all them up until the delivery then its all baby. It's utterly stupid

I don't think it is by any means required. If offered, I will politely decline.

My anxiety and modesty towards gift-giving/receiving would make me a MESS. Hahahaha. I can't even imagine.

The wife of Jones' best friend refused to have one, and I love her for that. She was raised very wealthy and felt uncomfortable inviting all of these people to sit around and watch her open gifts that we all knew she was going to return for money towards nicer stuff she actually wants

Than don't. Are you here to be reassured of your life choices?

good luck

I would have liked to decline but the pressure of 2 families, mainly old people, is hard and at some point you just cave in, or at least we did

and I'm like you, I hate people buying me stuff

My parents are amazing. I don't get pressured into that kind of stuff. They wouldn't care if I never got married or had kids or did anything. Little to no relationship with aunts/uncles beyond Christmas.
Grandmothers also couldn't care less.

I've never been asked by anyone beyond my old Cajun boss at my old job about when "that boy is going to propose" or any of that stuff people say often happens.

Jones has no extended family if that is where my life leads

I read horror stories about families when it comes to weddings, so I guess I'm lucky that I have parents who couldn't care less what kind of choices I make in regards to that as long as I'm happy and not marrying a deadbeat.

not parents

old people, as in grand parents, old aunts, etc

they love showers and all that, and they will constantly ask you about it, so you cave, you set aside a few hours to open some gifts, and the afterwards you realize it wasn't that big of a deal and it made the old people immensely happy to see you open their gift and its not something you hopefully ever have to do again

I'm telling you. Not being contrarian purposely, but I am lucky. I don't have these people in my life at all.

His posts read like he is trying to convince everyone to not make him go to parties.

My post wasn't directed to everyone in here.

Yeah, they're going just them two to see the Northern Lights and getting married.

She's that type though. She is an artist and very creative, so she doesn't like the idea of traditional weddings. We've known since little girls that she'd probably never have a traditional wedding.
