I've tried orthotics and they don't help. Is it really just ice and prolonged rest?

Any voodoo tricks you guys know about?

Rest. And don't try to tough it out, they can turn into stress fractures.

Stop running or walking like an idoit. Fix your form and shin splints go away.

Nothing. Your genetics are not conducive to physical activity.

Time to lay down and rot. That is your destiny.

My doctor says they're a sign of weakness. Quit being weak.

I've had them for about three months and tried to play bball periodically within then. I can play for 2 or 3 games and then it's unbearable.

I hear people with AIDS don't get shin splints...

So...you can get AIDS.

Get the right shoes. I used to get them all the time and went to Perfectly Fit in Hammond and he measured my feet, watched me walk and put in a shoe. That was the end of shin splints that day.

Look for a running shoe store that fits shoes.

Do you have a pool you can use for a week or two? If so, run back and forth in the pool to give relief. Sounds odd but it works well.

Bicycle.

And don't be an arse and hog the lane. And also be careful of the motion sickness. I found out that shite the hard way.

I mostly play bball for my exercise. I struggled with them in high school when we were practicing and playing constantly. We just finished up city league playoffs where we played 4 games in a two week span and they started then (my, how the mighty have fallen).

I may just have to swim laps for cardio for awhile and let my shins rest. This sucks; I was just getting a rhythm back to my game

Just ice them. But to make icing them easier, go by some small Dixie cups, fill them with water, and freeze them. Once frozen, rip the top half off and hold onto the covered bottom half while icing your entire shin

Get a pair of these, Asics Gel Keyano 22's. It'll feel like you're running on air. I love em.

Sounds like you're over pronating too much, the shoes will help correct that.

A couple times a day, stand on one leg and rotate in a circle, each foot, 8-10 times clockwise then counterclockwise.

Try to keep your leg still. I've found it helps.

I didn't know the activity level of the OP so I figured I'd assume that some how they were from walking. The only way I can imagine getting themy from walking is by stomping your feet...that seems like something an Idiot would do.
