Nobody has forgotten. It's just that outside of Katrina and Andrew in 93, there has never been a time in my life where electronic payment methods weren't a more convenient, safer and less expensive payment option.

The people who actually care about this are very few and very far between.

It will be 10 years this August since Katrina and that's the most recent example you can come up with I think I'll be fine the once every 10 years I need it. Good luck with all that cash in your mattress. I'd rather have my money invested and earning a return than sleep on it but to each his own.

It's he most recent I lived through... What about up north where they go through Ice storms every year and power is lost for weeks....

Thanks for the investment lesson.... Yeah I just have cash laying around the house... Nothing in stocks or municipal bonds...

Don't be obtuse

Everyone has a mobile phone right? There is PayPal, square several NFC based solutions. Hell of a lot easier than making sure you have exact change for the lawn guy.

Prices would go up since now many places would have to declare their true income on taxes.

So we want to avoid innovation so people can avoid paying taxes?

And even if they wanted to continue breaking the law, they can still do so using electronic payment methods. It might be a little riskier but still possible.

No, I want my barber to continue to break the law so that my haircuts are cheaper.

I doubt we'd get many businesses rounding down in practice. Unless there is some stupid competitive markets they'll just adjust prices up 7 cents. But I could be wrong.

Their only use is to keep you from getting more of them.

Exactly...the most recent even was 10 years ago. I'm sure I can run to the ATM if I need to.

Any you're the one that said you keep cash around the house, not me. I don't so I just assumed everyone that kept cash in the house did so in their mattress. At least that's what my grandmother did.

One more thing, learn when to use or and are properly. It makes you look ignorant

That's actually a completely legit rationale to have.

But think of what gets saved overall. Cash costs money to create, transport, store and keep track of. So while your haircuts might be $1-$2 more per visit, I gurantee you will save more than that in other areas.

They are only here to provide "good luck" if you find one on the sidewalk. Otherwise, nobody uses fricking pennies.

Know why your grandmother kept cash in her mattress..? She was probably a smart woman...

My grandfather did the same thing, except he hid his in ammo cans in the attic...

and I corrected my mistake, before telling me. Thanks for the useless lesson again..

I only have 1, but I really like it.

ETA: My bad, I misread the OP. I have no use for pennies.

Do away with them. Round up or down to 5/0.

Well the ATM wouldn't work in that situation.

Where do you live? Vallet, certain food places at sporting/concert events, and some local business only accept cash.

I just had to pay for my tailor in cash, because she doesn't accept credit card.

I also loved how you took it to the extreme. Having an emergency fund or $100 in your pocket is a lot different than hiding thousands in your mattress.
