I need to tell the button-popping golden corral story sometime
Posted on 10/16/17 at 2:16 pm to shawnlsu
dead on...so makes you wonder if the line is wrapped around bc they are popular, because it's hard to fit that many vans in one line, or because every one of those vans is ordering meals for half a dozen kids and it better be right because MY KIDS ARE MY LIFE!!!!!

When I lived there Monroe people would seriously justify this by saying was only to go, while the other had a dine in area... They seriously saw the need for this
Why would anyone in Monroe have to defend there being two chick-fil-as in West Monroe? If the owner made more money with two stores, why in your infinite wisdom should he shut one down?

ok it really is amazing to me you people aren't understanding what I am saying. Yes he made money, yes both were successful.... but don't you think it would have been a BETTER idea and made MORE money if he spread them out??? ya know have a popular restaurant in different areas of town to grab more than one group of people??

Were you around Monroe/WM in the late 60s?
Posted on 10/16/17 at 2:32 pm to scott8811
He already owns 4 chick-fil-as. 2 in Monroe and 2 in WM. He has a perfectly good CFA store already up and running and you think he should shut it down just to shut it down.

I like golden corral get full on good price

I never said shut it down... what I was saying is I would have opened the bigger location somewhere other than right across the street from a current location

I kinda wished they would have put the restaurant downtown
Doesn't Kay Robertson have a place downtown? I also ate at Willie's place (I guess this is the DD restaurant) about a month ago when I was getting a rental car to replace my flooded Harvey vehicle. I was at Academy and hungry so popped in. It was some kind of re-opening. Willie, Korie, Martin, and others were all there.
Food was above average. I give it a thumbs up.

Ok, I'll make another run at this since we don't seem to be getting our side across. The old restaurant was a little off Thomas Road. (Thomas Road is the main "hamburger lane" in West Monroe i.e. where you find McDonalds, Popeyes, Taco Bell, Burger King, McAllister's, Newks, etc) You had to turn off Thomas towards Walmart and then turn across traffic right after a light to get into it. It was drive thru only.
Chickfila was able to acquire property located on Thomas. So, they built a large restaurant with the intention that it take the place of the smaller one and serve more customers and be more convenient. However, once they built the new one and were getting it up to speed they found out they made enough money to keep open. So, they did.
There was no plan to have 2 open, demand just supported it so they did like any good capitalist and made money.

Ok... Thanks for the explanation.. all of that actually makes sense.
Just not a move you would normally make as a business owner so you can understand why I thought it was dumb as hell.

I remember last year my coworker took me to a place called Granny's Buffet.. They had hot water cornbread that was off the chain
That was much better than Golden Corral
He also took me to Grandys and Big Top a few times.

Sounds like y'all were living large

While Monroe does have more "fine dining" places than West Monroe, you are missing a few non-chain joints in WM:
Chef Eric's (lunch only)
Roma Italian Bistro
Sports City Grill
RawZ
Sweet T's
El Sombrero
And damnit, y'all Monroe folks need to stay away from Latin Food place, it's getting too damn hard to find a parking space
