Wendy’s planning Uber-style ‘surge pricing’ where burger prices fluctuate based on demand

Wendy’s is preparing to test an “Uber-style” surge-pricing model where the cost of menu items will fluctuate throughout the day based on demand — meaning a Dave’s burger will cost more during the lunch or dinner rush.

The fast-food chain’s unappetizing plans, set to be tested in a high-stakes rollout next year, will squeeze more money out of already inflation-battered Americans who may not have the option to eat their meals during “off-peak” hours.

Wendy’s CEO Kirk Tanner announced the new system on a call with investors, noting the Ohio-based company will invest $20 million on high-tech menu boards that will be able to update prices in real-time without incurring additional overhead costs.

Let me guess...prices just fluctuate up and not down from the regular price.

Dave Thomas is rolling in his grave. If you want to increase prices then give us the 1970’s version of your burgers.

Between this and no longer being able to share streaming passwords I truly hate corporate America more than I ever have.

Would it matter if prices were raised across the board and discounts were given when it wasn’t busy?

I had no idea Wendy's was looking for a way to go bankrupt. #TIL

Thats crazy. How about a sign that says "prices are 20% higher from 1130-130p and 5-7pm".

Overall its not a bad idea. On days I work from home and need out of the house, I'd wait til 130 for a burger at a discount. Fast food ain't cheap these days. And it's often not fast either.

Go to drive through only Wendy's.

Sit in line and refuse to move until prices drop.
