actually looks like it is nowhere near as bad as the OP makes it sound.
Six gaskets, four seals and a damper bolt?

To me it sounds like a standard timing belt change.

It's actually the cam phaser that makes the noise and needs changing as well.

3k on synthetic oil sounds about as fun as burning a pile of cash

Not if you are driving in harsh conditions. Synthetic oil is a superior lubricant. BUT, the main job of an oil is to suspend contaminates. Synthetic oil is no different than any other oil in that regard. The oil gets contaminated and destroys the engine if not changed.

sucks but I think you saw my thread and recent comments about the one I just traded in with 74K miles that had the same issue. Went back with the 5.0 and I'll probably never buy another turbo engine vehicle from Ford.
Good luck

Would it be cheaper to drop a 5.0 motor off eBay? Not sure how that works, but 4K is bordering on a different engine? Right?

If it hasn't thrown the chain or blown a valve or lifter yet it isn't that hard to replace. I did

I hope you replaced the entire timing system and not just the chain. If you did just the chain, it's only a matter of time before it starts again.

That's why I said eBay. I just looked and they are under 3k. 2011-2013 engines out of wrecked 150s. I am just planning on mine breaking down.

I want to know what you do, so I can either learn from your mistakes or benefit from your wisdom.

Yeah man it's a mess. I know for a FACT this issue is completely fixed for the 16+ Eco but who really knows what could come up.

again, its the chain AND the cam phasers which actually are making the noise. First TSB was just the chain, then they saw the problem coming back and re issued another bulletin for the phasers

I'm gonna find out if I can just let it go without doing any further damage. The noise really doesn't bother me.

I mean regardless of the issues, the new body Fords are outrageously expensive compared to equally equipped GMs.

Been getting 19 mpg on my 16 for the year I've had it. Only going to get better on the newer motors with 10 sp transmissions.

It could also depend on axle ratio more so than motor, especially with bigger tires. I've got 35"s as well, but my mileage is off because I haven't re calibrated or programmed, so I'm not exactly sure what the real life numbers are.

You've got to be kidding. 200k is my minimum expectation these days if I keep good oil in it
