After bragging about the power and efficiency for years, I'm here to eat my words and call it the POS that it really is. At a little over 100K, I get the timing chain rattle at cold startup that FORD has acknowledged for years but won't fix outside of warranty. It's a common problem that seems to plague 2011-2015 Ecoboost motors. Ford service has a TSB for it and wants $4k to fix the issue.

I'll give you 4k cash for the truck today, deal?

I'll be the ugly, fat guy wearing the US flag shirt speaking Spanish.

You're complaining because your engine worked well for over 100k miles

Only a Ford guy would think that was an accomplishment.

If it hasn't thrown the chain or blown a valve or lifter yet it isn't that hard to replace. I did one. Check a private shop. $4k is high.

IF that's the case, can't really blame Ford on that one.

I did. A while as in probably 6 months. Wouldn't have mattered regardless.

TSB says its 19hrs of labor to fix. I've checked with private shops but this seems like something I would rather a certified Ford tech work on. I'll keep researching.
