Well, F the Ford Ecoboost.

After bragging about the power and efficiency for years, I'm here to eat my words and call it the POS that it really is. At a little over 100K, I get the timing chain rattle at cold startup that FORD has acknowledged for years but won't fix outside of warranty. It's a common problem that seems to plague 2011-2015 Ecoboost motors. Ford service has a TSB for it and wants $4k to fix the issue.

I'll give you 4k cash for the truck today, deal?
I'll be the ugly, fat guy wearing the US flag shirt speaking Spanish.

You're complaining because your engine worked well for over 100k miles

First mistake was purchasing a Ford.

only 100k miles and 4 years and I might have to replace the motor on a $50k truck? Yeah I'm complaining

Only a Ford guy would think that was an accomplishment.

You know you have to change the oil. Especially in a turbo engine. Moose out front shoulda told ya.

You just said the other day that you've heard that noise for a while now and kept rollin. Guess it finally caught your attention enough huh? Trade it in for a 5.0

Have you added this tidbit to the Tundra vs 150 Thread on the OB yet?

If it hasn't thrown the chain or blown a valve or lifter yet it isn't that hard to replace. I did one. Check a private shop. $4k is high.

IF that's the case, can't really blame Ford on that one.

I did. A while as in probably 6 months. Wouldn't have mattered regardless.

TSB says its 19hrs of labor to fix. I've checked with private shops but this seems like something I would rather a certified Ford tech work on. I'll keep researching.
