I just missed out having that label. Every generation bitches and moans about those ahead and those behind. It is a pointless exercise in futility.

In my line of work there is a huge gap in qualified work force in ages 35-18. With the boomers retiring out, they take a wealth of knowledge with them. With that said, I am 35 and well positioned to move up in the company, not because I am great at winning in life but because many my age suck so bad!!

Boomers didn't "give" the war on drugs to anyone They just gave us Nixon and Reagan. Nothing has changed. Hope and promise doesn't mean shite no matter the elected party.

Uh huh. It's something we effectively pass down to future generations.

X'ers disliked boomers.

Generation X has often been criticized for a snarky and casual disdain for authority. In the workplace, they want freedom coupled with responsibility and they hate being micromanaged. This has created decades of conflict between Baby Boomers and Gen Xers. The American workforce is an interesting state of transition right now because every day thousands of Baby Boomers retire.

My generation is a hell of a lot better than yours. Quit your crying and get to work, son.

Sure they did. When did it start? 1971.

technically, if you want to nitpick, that $400 in meme #6 is disingenuous. it's really more like $1,250 in today's money according to the next meme. can't have it both ways.

but rocket, i lol @ inflation all day. srs.

I know I know... the year I was born. But Sched 1 wasn't a Boomer decision, it was the olds who came before them who fricked it all up. Political jousting. You know that.

Not a big Ronald Reagan fan but I loved his closing remarks at the end of the 1980 presidential debate. I'm going to paraphrase the questions he asked and apply it to the Baby Boomers.

1) Is America better off now compared to when the Baby Boomers were growing up?

2) Has the standard of living improved for Americans compared to when the Baby Boomers were growing up?

3) Is it easier for people to find good jobs compared to when the Baby Boomers were growing up?

4) Is America as respected throughout the world as it was before?

5) Is America as strong as we were when the Baby Boomers were growing up?

I'm not impressed by that article. First of all, if we accept that the boundaries of these generations are quite nebulous and subjective, I think it's better to lump "generations" by shared experiences. And there is a HUGE difference between the experience of someone who grew up in the 60's/70's and those who grew up in the 80's/90's.

A 1978 high school graduate and a 1998 graduate have extremely different life histories.

Here are some big differences:
Percentage of divorced parents.
Percentage of mothers who worked.
Size of families.
Computers in school versus no computers
Corporal punishment in school
In Louisiana, the drinking age
Witnessed the Vietnam War and it's aftermath or not
Experienced the Cold War or not
Had cell phones or not
Were parented by Baby Boomers or not (possibly most important)

I think this is the big one. Probably the most profound experience for people growing up in the 50's, 60's and 70's. Also, desegregation, and a few other political issues.

I was born in 1964. Started my own little business at 21 and still get up five days a week and bust it on some shitty roof. Pointing that soft finger of yours isn't going to change this mess.
