I have a friend who is getting married and I unfortunately won't be able to make the wedding. I wanted to send him something decent (but not too pricy) that he might find useful in the sandbox. He gets deployed, again, in a few months I believe. I know we have some military guys on here and any advice is greatly appreciated.

Wouldn't you want to get something they can use together as a couple? Usually wedding gifts are geared for both to use.

Wiley x shades, gerber multi tool both very useful. I'm sure he smokes so get him an engraved zippo possibly. I was given a zippo with my crest and recon on it which I later had my team members names put on it. My hmmwv was hit with an rpg and blew up with my lighter in it. To this day I still miss that lighter and I gave up smoking 5 years ago.

Best gift to give someone deploying is a portable hard drive filled with movies. He will use it every day.

Normally I would agree, but since he's shipping out soon and I've never met this girl, I wanted to get something more geared for him and his uses.

I get your thought on this, but this is a strange idea, to me. I recently had to buy a gift for a couple. Husband was who I knew and he was heading overseas shortly thereafter, too. I gave a gift to the couple.

If you want to give him something separate, why don't you do that, but give a couple's gift as well?
