It's seriously wreaked havoc on my boat and a few friends boat motors. I learned my lesson quickly and stupidly I might add.

Luckily our boat mechanic warned us. You definitely don't want it sitting in the tank over winter. It's hard to find ethanol free off the water, so we usually just fill up at the marina.

Keep the tank full, use stabil, keep the fuel lines empty.

Thanks Obama.

It's absolutely amazing how much cleaner diesel exhaust pipes are than they were 10 years ago.

I've been doing pretty much constant research on the real effects of burning the extra fuel to achieve the clean exhaust though, and so far I'm leaning towards it's worth it. It pisses people off because the engines are complicated as frick and don't get half the mileage they used to get, but alot of that is due to the ignorant amounts of power the new ones make.

If you take an old diesel and make the numbers that a new one will off the showroom floor, you'll be less than impressed with the mileage and be spewing massive clouds of soot all over the world. The new one will still have a spotless tailpipe.

I'd rather pay more on the water than do all of that.

That won't be an option soon.

It sucks, but we're pretty much helpless. Ethanol free gas was available and people could vote with their wallets if they chose to. The fact is not enough people give a damn for it to matter.

The emissions restrictions the EPA has imposed on domestic diesel vehicles reduced their fuel mileage by about half of what other countries get.

Not true. Look at the mileage the Jetta TDI gets, among others.

Not to mention the explosion of smaller displacement diesel engines that are in the pipeline that are going to hit the market over the next several years as the CAFE standards are raised.

One of the reasons that diesels have been more popular in Europe is that the refining process they use is somewhat different than ours and it produces more diesel out of a barrel of oil than ours does. And the way fuel is taxed in Europe makes the cost differential with gas less and makes it even more popular when the increased mileage is taken into account.

fricking ethanol gas makes everything that's produced from corn more expensive. Y'all just wait to you see the way pork, chicken and especially beef prices are about to skyrocket. It's not all due to corn, but a good bit of it is.

Diesel enthusiasts are just going to have to accept that SCR is the best thing that could have happened to diesel engines.

We have the Passat TDI and love it. Average right at 38-40 MPG around Baton Rouge and 42-44 when we take trips.

An extremely large amount of corn grown in Louisiana, last year had the most acres planted ever, is made into Ethanol.

Less acres this year because corn prices have dropped substantially.

I just can't believe that our population of save the planet hippies don't have a problem with putting food in our fuel tanks while people starve.

And to top it off, converting that food into fuel is such a horribly energy-negative process from start to finish. I'm not sure what anybody other than corn farmers see in it.

No, look at an older 6-sp Jetta TDI. Some people were getting 60+mpg, with most getting 50mpg on the highway. What do they get now? How do they get almost 100mpg in the EU? If it is the same car, mpg conversion would put it at 83mpg here. Not so much the case

Refinery emissions go up the more fuel they produce. Does that offset the reduced OTR emissions? Probably not. What you end up with is a less reliable, more expensive engine
