Never paid too much mind to them. The XC90 and XC60 is mildly peaking my interest for a down the road new wife car. Any experiences with Volvo/their SUV's you can share?

I've heard they always have issues. Not major issues but a lot of small, expensive issues.

I don't trust models made for the American market from any European brand. Get one of their nice sedans.

We had used first generation V70 for a couple years. It was a piece of shite. I got real good at repairing it. We sold it because we didn't trust it enough to get my girlfriend around without breaking down all the time.

I've heard mixed things from other people. Some people love them and never have a problem. Others are in my boat and had nothing but trouble from them. YMMV, quite literally.

ETA: Ours was only 75k when we got it. I knew it would have a few things here and there, but I guess I was used to cars that would start to really need things replaced around 120-150.

I have two - an XC90 and an S60.

Love the XC90 - if you are looking at the new ones, they are awesome. I'm probably going to do the FlyVolvo thing in 2018 for our next one.

Having two of them, besides routine maintenance, I have had one minor issue with the AC that set me back $400.

The XC90 is supposed to be great. Now if they would just build this.

Honestly, you can say this about any of the luxury brands. Some people love them, some people have normal problems and they are more expensive.

SwedishAutoParts.com is operated out of Georgia and usually gives you a normal Honda price on Volvo parts. Find a non-dealer mechanic that will work on them and you'll be fine.

LOL.

I wouldn't try to dissuade one from buying a Volvo if it's something you like (and they are certainly still very safe vehicles), but to say this is pretty asinine at this point.

I've owned an XC90 and an S40. Very nice cars and great wife cars. Expensive as all get out and it seems like everything has a special tool to put in a special part. You're also limited on options for shops to work on them around here other than the stealership. Brought the S40 to the stealership for brakes and they quoted me $1000 worth of additional shite.

Current wife mobile is the 2013 Santa Fe. Seems like every time something goes wrong you can get it covered under warranty. Lots of features for waaaay cheaper than other cars.

They're both made in China. I'd be a bit leery about buying any car that was made in China

We've had four and loved them! I had a station wagon years ago, totaled it but neither my baby nor myself had a scratch. My oldest is on her second s40. She had a head on collision on a bridge in her first s40. She was not injured. My youngest has a 2011 s60. They have all been very good cars. I would love one of the new suvs

I bought the wife one. The leather came off the steering wheel with ~5000 miles on the car. Had to almost go into arbitration to get the dealership to replace it. At 80k miles, the entire electrical system went out. Having just payed the car off, I opted for the dealership to replace that. Didn't work. Finally, I traded it in for a Mazda. Never again. Dealing with Volve as a company was a pain in the arse. They refused to back their product.

Very safe.

mid-pack reliability.

somewhat under-powered, given the curb weight.

a bit behind the curve on user interfaces.

My in-laws swear by them, but I think they are crap. Always have mechanical issues.
