How can anyone say cutt throat has more strategy? You are just playing whatever card you want. Its stupid. You actually have to have a brain and know how to lead when playing follow suit. You know, use some strategy. Cutt throat is for people that don't want to think.
I understand somewhat why you all say it's more strategy, but it's a strategy that has nothing to do with the main focus of the game, which is trying to make your bid (outside of now gambling away the pedros). There is no way to determine what is going to happen in off card rounds when you are bidding. So now you are just adding more randomness to the game. Yes it's a strategy once you have the cards, but it's adding a bit of "gambling" to the bid process if you strap on all the unknowns regarding off cards.

I like the idea of knowing what everyone has after that first throw.
whats the ot's opinion of passing one non point card to partner face up if its your only card?

Mis-deal.
I have chosen not to receive any cards from the dealer if I have no suit cards and my partner is the dealer.

That's cheating. You play with what you have. Also, you don't throw out until you can't play any more. It's the game.

its played in some groups. not passing under the table. you declare out and pass the one non point card face up for all to see. I don't care for it but tolerate it more than cut throat or dump 6 rules.

That's stupid. Why would someone be allowed to aid their partner like that? I also think taking a set 7 if you're forced is stupid as well as not being able to lead with an off card in follow suit.

Because its now 2 on 1. not easy to play alone.
being forced to bid 7 makes the game interesting. dealer has deck to look through so it helps curb that advantage as well.
in follow suit play you CAN lead off with an "off suit" card.

What a game - both versions. Grew up playing cut throat (from Houma) and learned follow suit 6 years ago (wife is from Raceland). Both IMO have strategy, be it different types. This argument will never die! Haha. If you're looking for another version 6 man is a good time. Same concept, 2 teams of 3 staggered in seats. Pass out 8 cards to each person, remaining 4 in the middle. Minimum bid 11, winner of bid gets the middle 4. Same rotation, games to 72. Can play either way

Same here. I refuse to play follow suit after playing cut throat since the Great Terrebonne Parish teacher strike of 1989-90.

If you play that bs Nicholls State follow suit crap
I only ever played follow suit, but wouldn't care and could play it either way.

best is 8 people everyone throws up some money to get in. you play with each person as your partner throughout the night.
total all points from each game. highest total points gets the cash.
you can theoretically lose every game and still win the cash.
