Not saying an entry amg will be high end enough, but I wouldn't be surprised in the least if a 200k S65 AMG was cheaper to insure than a camry.
My 2004 tahoe with liability only was about the same as my 911 turbo with comprehensive.

Well your premium on comp and collision is related to the ACV of the car. I would think a $200k car would be more expensive than a Camry to insure with all else being equal.

Anything with under 60k miles is likely an owner on a lease or that bought it with plans to just trade it in after 1-3 years. They don’t really care about maintenance outside of the minimum they need to do for their lease or trade in.
It’s not even the money most of the time, it’s they don’t see the point in wasting their time on something that’s under warranty and doesn’t affect them.

Correct, when they're new.
After they get older, like anything else, they get cheaper.
You can also get collector-type policies that pay agreed value. They have mileage limitations which usually work fine for a 3rd or 4th car.

Good luck with that N63 V8 engine. Make sure the oil valve stem seals have been replaced already. If not, you're looking at a 7-8k repair bill that you *will* incur very soon.

Tyler Hoover bought a similar year E63 Wagon with slightly more miles and has been having major electrical issues. Doesn’t mean that car will, but it’s definitely a gamble with 125k miles.
If this is supposed to be a second “fun” car for you, I feel like there are better options with less miles but for slightly more. I’d personally rather have something like an E55 for daily driving duties, comfy and quick. Get something not as practical and more fun for a second car, that’s the purpose.

No doubt, but new was my point since the post I replied to had the S65 at $200k. If both were valued the same then obviously the premium would be around the same.

While AMGs are very affordable on the used market, you are still maintaining a $100k-$200k vehicle. Case in point, look at any of the 65 varients, you're looking around $5k for a brake job despite picking up a used one for $30k. You cannot cut the cost by buying shite quality parts at Auto one, they are not available.

It has a lot to do with the driver pool.
Sure, a camry is only worth a fraction of the AMG, but the typical camry driver gets into wrecks a lot more than the average amg driver.
It's not just value. That tahoe had about 1/8th of my turbo's value and liability only was a few bucks a month less than full coverage on the Porsche. Because people who drive turbos are less risky than people who drive tahoes.

Well they are more practical so they are on the road more than the average Porsche as well

For some AMG's, they are not repairable at all. The V12 and older V8 cars are basically throw-away cars, which is why they are so cheap. Only chance of getting parts are from sellers that have stripped them off of another car and the prices are astronomical. Cars worth more in parts than they are in good running condition...

No they aren't. Most parts are still available through the dealership.
