It feels good to be the hero, and for the driver that exposed his Tesla (and himself) to danger in order to save another driver, it won't even be very costly.
According to Muenchner Merkur (via Jalopnik), 41-year-old Manfred Kick was driving his Tesla Model S when he noticed a man in a Volkswagen driving erratically on the Autobahn near Munich, Germany. When Kick realized the man was unconscious, he pulled in front of the Volkswagen and slowly braked until both cars came to a stop.
He then entered the Volkswagen and gave the man first aid, while some people who stopped called emergency services. The man, who appeared to have suffered a stroke, was taken to the hospital and is stable, the German police said Tuesday.
The feel-good story would potentially end with a large damage bill for the Tesla driver — there's a total of 10,000 euros in combined damage, according to Jalopnik — if it weren't for Elon Musk, who shared the story on Twitter and said Tesla would provide all repair costs free of charge.
Elon Musk ? @elonmusk
Congrats to the Tesla owner who sacrificed damage to his own car to bring a car with an unconscious driver safely to a stop!

10,000e sounds like a lot of money for what the image shows as some minor rear bumper and quarter panel repair but Good on Tesla for covering the costs. Shrewd marketing move

That's damn good driving to keep your car under control while braking to slow another car.
Cheers to this man that's some selfless balls out bravery he displayed

No joke. Not only did this guy say frick my Tesla but potentially his own well being just to help this person.
It's always great to see people not being a bystander

Thanks for the link
Tesla's have all kinds of different sensors all around the car. Even though the damage may look minor, there may be a bunch of expensive little lane keeping assist sensors, parking assist sensors, and backup camera that got damaged and need to be replaced. Not just as easy as body work and paint

I will always applaud someone for not deciding to vertically film the situation with their cell phone and instead acting like a compassionate human being and trying help.

Off topic but what's all the hate for vertical filming?

I wonder if the VW had front impact sensors.

Tesla driver is a badass.

Typically it is unclear, zoomed out and terrible to view on a desktop. Whereas as landscape filming can be much better for the viewer.

Apology accepted

Kudos to the Samaritan and to overlord Musk

This story is awesome all around. Awesome on the driver for taking the risk of thousands of dollars of damage without second thought and good on Musk for picking up the tab.

I was expecting a story where the Tesla driver used the battery from his car to jumpstart the guy's heart

A legitimate cool story (bro). Nice to see Tesla backing up this man's good deed with a good deed of their own.

People over there can drive.
They have extremely difficult driving tests that require a ton of skill and studying. Most people fail at least once.
I don't understand why an American politician doesn't run with that on their platform. All it would do is piss off 16 year olds who can't vote and make adults who already have licenses happy.

And maybe even lower insurance rates.
