They also kept talking about calling for help. Who exactly did they plan to call? Because 911 sure wasn't a good answer.

More "patriots"? I dunno man, these are not very rational people.

He probably had marijuana on him. Even though it's "legal" in Oregon it's still a federal offense so the fbi rightfully took him down

So the feds fired first, they fired at a vehicle with women and children in it. HMMMM.

I'm glad they are under investigation hopefully some stormtrooper loses his job.

Anyone that thinks this is normal police procedure is on crack.

I know all about split second decisions. My comment was that he didn't try to run over anyone or avoid the roadblock and instead swerved to avoid hitting the people and cars blocking the road.

The shoot or don't shoot is a tough one. I feel I have enough first hand experience that I can say the shooting while understandable, may have been a little too quick. This is based on hindsight and only my personal opinion

Voice of experience and reason.

The shots fired immediately may have been quick and could have altered the outcome of the situation. No one knows how it would have ended without those first two shots fired.

I guess they legitimately believed that they were in the right and someone would do something about it, but telling an officer they will have to use deadly force to stop you, then fleeing, then reaching to your jacket pocket is only going to end one way.

I don't think the woman or the teenager being in the truck should have any bearing on how the police behave.

There are a lot of people on crack then.

The dude already showed murderous intent when he was driving 70 mph at a road block. I think we got a little past resisting arrest.

Any time police have guns drawn on you and you deliberately disobey their orders and flee, you have put yourself in a very dangerous situation. And this guy is absolutely at fault for putting himself in that situation. The cops don't know if these guys are going to open fire or not and I think were well within reason to be concerned about that.

BUT...to say that he had "murderous intent when he was driving 70mph at a roadblock" is idiotic. The roadblock was unexpected. He wasn't deliberately driving into a roadblock with intent to kill. Hence he turned off to the left to avoid plowing into the roadblock.

There are plenty of legitimate points to make in this thread in defense of the authorities rather than resorting to hyperbole and falsehoods.

The girl is 18 and an adult. Furthermore, your gender should have no bearing on a cop's decision to use lethal force. Finally, everyone in the vehicle was given the opportunity to step out peacefully and surrender, they made their decision just like LaVoy.

I am confused, why was he running in the first place. Also, why did the police want him arrested? The guy was asking for it imo, the police asked multiple times for him to surrender. This is what happens when you don't abide by the law.

Oh well. He got what he asked for. He was a bigger a-hole for putting the youngsters at risk. No big loss. No tears.

So I read up a little on the situation, I think adding some back story helps.

This was about a week in to the "siege" of the Wildlife Refuge buildings in Oregon by well armed "militants". This was the first time that LaVoy in his truck and the two other leaders of the whole thing, the Bundy brothers, had both left the compound together. The police were letting people come and go as they pleased for days in order to prevent a shoot out.

The two Bundy Brothers whom you can hear Lavoy talking about in the video, gave themselves up peacefully when they were first stopped.

LaVoy was conceal carrying a 9mm and there were multiple other weapons found in the vehicle. There was an officer trying to get close enough to LaVoy to tase him but he was moving irrationally, when the shots were fired.

Maybe there were things the police could of done better, but LaVoy was thought to be armed, acting irrationally, and in fact was armed. You simply don't act out rapidly and irrationally like that when police have weapons drawn.
