1976 Pontiac Ventura SJ

It wasn't a great vehicle, but I had a lot of great memories in it, and you cannot find one these days

I had a 1997 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer w/4WD in deep jewel green pearl w/a medium parchment interior. I really miss it.

This was my Moms vehicle when we were growing up. Bought it new off the lot in 1997 and it was exactly the same color combo and interior w/ 4x4 except it was a 1998; I believe the only difference is the rear hatch/window. Put close to 250k miles on it with zero issues whatsoever minus the Firestone tires being recalled during that situation.

She just sold it 2 years ago and got a 2021 Explorer that's literally been in the shop more than she's had it. She said she LOVED her Explorer but after having this new one would never own another again.

Wish my Dad had never gotten rid of his 58 Apache step side pickup.

That was a very cool old truck.

I had an '83 Chevy Silverado CK 10, like the one below, that originally belonged to my grandfather. It was passed on to me when he died. Started to have some transmission problems. I was in college and couldn't afford to fix it.

Basically sold it for nothing to another family member. I wished I had hung on to it until I could've afforded the repairs. It was a solid truck.

Pretty similar to mine on pg 1. Metal roof, vinyl seats and floors, 2 knob radio, ac and bright lights on the floor board. You could watch the gas needle move when you floored it

31 Hudson Terraplane Coupe. (Mine was white.)
Bought it in 1954 when I was in college and had a ball with it. Couldn't chase the girls away but they all wanted to ride in the rumble seat instead of straddling the shift lever. Couldn't help letting the hand slip off of the lever once in a while.
Sold it in 57 when I was deeply in debt and the baby was due. I got $25 down and the guy took it and I never saw him or the car again. I still have the title so I guess that legally I still own it.

1983 F150 4x4.

Had it in high school and was also a manual. It had a 351 Windsor and was a lot of fun to drive. I can’t tell you how many times I was on the side of the road out of gas 1. Because the gas gauge didn’t work and 2. I only put in $5 at a time

Every time I haul scrap metal to the yard off the farm I see an old car being dropped off to be crushed and it makes me irrationally angry. If it’s not totaled from a wreck don’t crush it. Someone will buy it to restore it. Probably for more than the 3-500 bucks you get from the scrap yard

or someone could put it to use as a parts car

You ever do a VIN search on it? Car that old is a long shot but it’s possible it’s still out there somewhere

This. Even the farm trucks that are worn slap out I don’t take to the crusher I either sell them to someone cheap who wants to fix it or to a salvage yard that will part it out. My uncle recently bought a 2012 f150 lariat we had with 380k miles on it that had a strong motor but body was beat up and suspension shot, with a lot of interior components broken and worn. He works at a dealership service dept. sold it to him 1500 bucks, he did the body work himself, painted it, replaced suspension and some interior components only spending like 5k because he gets his parts wholesale. It’s a pretty nice truck now.

I just don’t believe in crushing vehicles unless it’s wrecked beyond any use. Just because you don’t want to fix it doesn’t mean it doesn’t have life left and someone else may want to fix it

Old Chevy truck I used to have. 2006 or 2007 model.

It never broke down, but it also never met a gas station it didn't love. I maintained it very well and sold it with 160,000 miles. I know who has it. It has well over 240,000 miles and it still looks pristine except for the fancy color matched camper shell they added.

They won't sell it back to me either. I miss that truck.

Yeah, I know what she means. I loved that first one so much. Every time I think about getting a new vehicle I test drive one but what Ford has done w/them in the last 15 years or so have put me pretty firmly off of Ford SUVs for the most part.

FWIW the closest thing I've found to that era of Explorer is the Jeep Grand Cherokee during it's WK2 run from 2011-2022. I have a '14 Overland now and it's pretty great. She she look at one of those if she wants an SUV w/a nicer interior that can also go into 4WD if needed.
