More good replies, thanks again. I've seen several of you mention having sperm frozen before the procedure, in case I change my mind (which I'm confident I won't but an option to consider). I am not against doing that, but what are the costs associated with it? I've heard that can be very expensive.

Depends on length you have them frozen, several grand.

But that's the cheap part. Say you want to use them, that's the expensive part.

Don't tell your doc that you are even aware of the possibility of getting it reversed. It is not to be considered a reversible operation. It is designed to be permanent.

Yeah I figured it was expensive to freeze sperm, I had seen that on multiple other sources. I don't need it anyway, if I do it I know I won't change my mind later. Plus I don't have particularly good genes to pass along anyway, lol.

And what is it with you all and beta males, lol. Yes I am straight, 100%, but yeah I'm a beta. I've never been the alpha dog type. Why do some of you all consider beta males to be bad? I'm a beta and proud of it.

And who says chivalry is dead?

Oh, Sir Wanks-alot
Jizzed his pants a lot
they said "are you wet"
he said "no I'm not"
But he left a spot

Also, another question I have, the recovery time. I know you pretty much have to lay on the couch for a couple of days, I plan on that. I know I wouldn't be able to play tennis (which I play 2 - 3 times a week) for about 2 weeks. Other than that, what should I know?

The other big thing is the following, is recovery feasible alone. I can arrange a friend to drive me to and from obviously, but I am single and live alone. My parents do not even know I'm considering this and will not know. If I make the appropriate preparations, is recovery by myself with no help feasible?

Go for no scalpel procedure, little recovery time. Had mine on a Thursday, laid low Fri/Sat/Sun. Monday I went back to work and back working out by Tuesday.

Absolutely can recover by yourself.

If nervous, most places provide a Valium before procedure but will need a ride home. I didn't need it and was able to drive home.

I don't think I ever said I was a 10 on the looks scale. I know I'm a 5 or 6 and I know there are plenty of women out of my league. That has nothing to do with this discussion. I honestly truly don't want children, especially to some woman I barely know.

Why do some of you think there's an ulterior motive behind this? I promise you there isn't, I am being genuine.

This is so weird.... If not a troll I'd recommend getting laid in short order.

The lack of pussy in your life is making your mind think crazy thoughts. It's creepy/weird/awkward when a obviously single superfat midget with a chinstrap beard twerking a fedora drops in the clinic for a vasectomy.....

Try to find someone who does not hum "He's got the whole world in his hands" while performing the procedure

Had mine done in sept. One side was painless and easy. Other side was very painful and I was raising off the bed in pain during procedure. Went for follow up two days ago. Still having issues with pain on side that hurt during procedure(feels like a torn muscle) in the crease between my thigh and abdomen. Dr swears the procedure didnt cause it. He did an ultrasound and found nothing.

I regret it now because apparently his only recommendation is to take aleve daily. :(

However I'm barren

I don't know what if this was said but this what my buddy told me that had it done.

Do it right before march madness starts, your recovery will be to watch all the games.
Get several bags of frozen peas to use as ice packs.

Best of luck getting clipped.

People tend to change their minds on things when they fall in love. I have know more than one man/woman that has made the same statement, with the same amount of certainty, as you about not wanting children only to change their minds after meeting the person they want to spend the rest of their life with. Love has a funny way of doing that.

Some were younger than you are now but some were of a similar age. Reversals are expensive and only have a 50% chance of success.

Had one when I turned 42. Best copay I ever spent. About a week of "discomfort".

Don't forget that a vasectomy doesn't protect you from STD's......duh.

Good luck with your decision.

Thank you all for the great advice. If you have any additional advice please feel free to share it with me.

At this time I think I have firmly decided to have the no scalpel procedure. I have my annual physical with my doctor next week and am going to bring it up at that time to get the referral to a urologist.

Thank you all again for helping provide information on this very important decision for me!
