I did this trip about 10 years ago. It was fun but very crowded. A lot of americans.

My wife and I rented a jeep and drove the opposite side of the island from the resorts. Lots of jeep trails and good scenery. The town is safe as well.

It was a fun place to go but the resorts are very crowded. I also did a half day guided fishing trip which was very poorly run. The guides there are scams.

When I go on vacation, I mostly prefer staying on the resort, drinking and just relaxing. In that case, Punta Cana is a much better destination. But you do not want to leave the resort for the most part

Have fun

I have been to Punta Cana 8 times a bunch. Other than a few sailing excursions, I usually just stay on the resort and relax.. The excursions are pretty "touristy". There is some fishing there and January may be one of the better times for it. Since I fish for a living, I usually dont go fishing on vacation.

There is a "island" trip that is pretty good. They sail you up the coast a few hours on a catamaran then stop for snorkeling. You end up on an island for lunch then sail back down. Not a bad trip. Plenty to eat and drink and the scenery is nice. I will see if I can dig up the name of it.

Where are you staying?

ETA: This is it. Its not a bad trip. There are some kids at times though. We typically stay at adult only resorts so I hate being around the kids on the excursions

Went to Aruba for my honeymoon in February. It was a blast. I definitely recommend the jeep tour of the island as someone has already mentioned. You don't have to rent it yourself if you don't want to. The terrain you have to drive through is crazy. You can always just go with a guide/group if that's what you prefer. It's basically an all day thing though. We stayed at La Cabana. There's nicer places but we got to stay here free due to my wife's parents timeshare. I'm sure the Ritz is super nice.

I'd recommend Screaming Eagle. Some of the best Surf n Turf I've ever had. They have canopy beds to eat on which are cool too. I had never done that before. Sounds like a lot of trouble I know, eating in bed and all, but it was awesome.

You should also do a sunset cruise one night.

Baby beach had a lot of people there but was still nice.

The natural pool was one of the coolest things I've ever seen.

And just FYI, Aruba is sketchy away from the resorts (insert Natalie Holloway joke), so I wouldn't venture too far away.

Hope this helps.

I went there two years ago. Did snorkel/scuba, swim with dolphins (which I thought would suck but was awesome), 4 wheeling, zip line, and booze cruise. None were bad.

I did a UTV tour of the east side of the island instead of a Jeep tour. If I had to choose again, I'd still do the UTV. It was awesome. Just make sure you bring sunglasses to keep the dust out of your eyes.

My wife and I went on our honeymoon and didn't rent a car. We mostly stayed around our hotel (the Hyatt Regency) and in Oranjestad. To get to Oranjestad, we had to take the shuttle bus, but it was convenient and didn't take any longer than driving ourselves would have. Then again, we're used to public transportation, so maybe those who aren't wouldn't like it.

There was no shortage of things to do for the week we were there.

I highly recommend a German restaurant called Bavarian Inn, especially if you're a fan of German food and beer. It was incredible, and the owner is the type that walks around and chats with customers at their tables and gives out complementary drinks and food, if you're lucky.

We also did a catamaran cruise that included snorkeling stops, which was a blast.

You're going to have a great time. Just check out different activities and businesses on tripadvisor and see what other peoples' experiences were. I found it to be really reliable, and a great resource to find ideas for things to do and places to eat.

Def get a jeep. The islands small and easy to navigate. Plenty to see off the beaten path.
